Trade Kevin Gregg and move Marmol to Closer

Jim Hendry should trade Kevin Gregg because Gregg Blows way to many saves and is not that good. He should also move Marmol to the closer role.

Star-divide

This would be a good move because Marmol has nasty stuff and is just a lot better than Kevin Gregg. We could also get some good money or another good player for Kevin Gregg. Kevin Gregg does not have anything other than a pretty good speed fast ball but that is it. Trade Gregg and move Marmol to closer would be the best thing this team could do right now.

in fact I’d move Marmol out of the 8th inning role as well. How many walks is it going to take Lou to figure that out

Why?

Carlos cant not find his control! He leads the world in walks. And Gregg has done pretty good so far and Im pretty sure Gregg saved Marmol yesterday. Im a huge fan of Marmol as well but NO. And the best thing right now is to trade him? We need enough runs to make it to the 9th to hand it over to a closer. 3 blown saves I think he has. Enough said

Are you kidding?

As of right now, Marmol has 42IP and 42BB! 1 walk per IP? You want that in the 9th inning? In comparison Gregg has only 16BB in 40 2/3IP. Much better IMHO.

Only 3 BS

It is not like he is that bad. 16/19(84.2%) isn’t terrible. Our “savior” last year in Wood was 34/40(85%). I’ll take Gregg over Marmol.

An upgrade there is simply playing at the margins, and the late-inning situation is the least of the Cubs concern.

And frankly, I’m a bit troubled that you think this move is the “best thing that the Cubs can do right now”. Really? I mean, have you seen Marmol lately, let alone what’s happening with their offense?

by Damen Jackson on Jul 12, 2009 5:53 PM CDT reply actions

At the begginning of the year

I had the same thoughts. However, Gregg has proven himself to be a great closer. Marmol has been walking way too many hitters and I believe Marmol has blown more saves in fewer chances than Gregg.

In 2002, Neifi Perez was a -3.1 WAR for the Royals. FanGraphs converts WAR to dollar values, so, in their own words:

Dollars – WAR converted to a dollar scale based on what a player would make in free agency

If Perez was on the free market in 2002, his “value” was worth a negative $8,000,000. I find this very, very funny.

Great idea

We need more of these good ideas. One point though, Hendry would not make Marmol the closer, I think Lou would have something to say about that.

I am thinking you can get a real solid bat for Gregg. Most likely a 30-30 guy. I say yes pull the trigger and get the offense going.
