There was a lot of talk on BCB that Reed Johnson caught that ball last night. Silly in my eyes, but I've read more than one person who somehow couldn't tell that from the video last night.

Well I'm pretty sure this pic from the Trib should put all debate to rest. He didn't catch the ball! We got a huge break.

LOOKS LIKE A CATCH TO ME!

A catch off the ground maybe.

Oh snap!

I'll say!

Pro ballplayer. Makes a nice living. Loves his dog. And pretty easy on the eyes, eh ladies?

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

all I'm going to say

is that I can’t tell if the ball is still in the air or not. It looks POSSIBLE that the ball is just on the edge of the webbing, too.

If he hadn’t fallen down, no one would care…

Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.

Give me a break.

It was obvious to anyone watching last night. It’s obvious to anyone looking at that picture.

If the situations were reversed, NO ONE here would argue that the ball was caught. No. One.

Well

I’m looking at it, and it’s not obvious to me.

I’ve seen one video. I can’t tell. That’s all I’m saying. If we got a break, then great. We deserve one every once in a while.

Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.

come on drew

we got a break. He made a great effort, but it was a trap. I could tell when I saw it live, but I’m still glad we got the call. But it’s ok to admit that he didn’t catch it, it’s not blasphemous!

Thank you.

It’s one thing to be a die hard Cubs fan (myself included), but there’s also a point where you have to be objective and say “phew that was lucky.”

Really Drew?

Do you ever say anything negative about the Cubs ever? Facts are facts dude. You’re being ridiculous; that’s not called “Fandom”, it’s called ignorance.

you know

I’m really starting to get tired of this. MY OPINION IS THAT I HAVE LOOKED AT THE PICTURE, AND I CANNOT TELL.

That doesn’t make me ignorant, or strapped with blinders, or ANYTHING ELSE.

I would appreciate it if you all treat me with the respect for my opinion that I show all of you.

Cripes.

Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.

Sounds good.

The ball’s on the grass, that’s all I’m gettin’ at.

I dunno.

Yes, the Cubs got a break, it appears to have been a bad call.

But they lost anyway, so what difference did it really make?

See below.

The difference it made

is that if the last three batters of the game had decided to do something as simple as take the bat off their shoulders, the Cubs had a chance to at least tie the game. If the umpires call it a trap or that it bounced into his glove, the Cardinals score at least two there and pretty much put the game away.

The Cubs threw away the golden gift from the umpires like it was trash. The difference it ended up making was that instead of Reed being the goat for falling down, or the umpire for “blowing” the call, it’s Bradley, Baker, and Hoffpauir for watching strike three.

Moreover...

…if Sori stumbles like Reed did and traps the ball, no one is saying what a great effort he makes, rather “what a crappy fielder.”

Granted comparing Reed’s defense to Sori’s is like apples and oranges, therefore he get’s a break. Just playing devil’s advocate because days off bore me.

The Only Difference..

Reed stumbled and still “caught” the ball. Well, didn’t catch it but you know what I mean. I don’t think Sori gets to that ball even if he doesn’t stumble.

I disagree with that.

Sori gets in trouble when he’s asked to take routes backwards. He’s pretty solid going forward. Again, in the end it doesn’t really matter. Just interesting to discuss none-the-less.

It doesn't.

But it’s an off day with not a lot to talk about. Thought it was an interesting picture.
