Let’s see how Harden does.
If you like Selig's handling of the steroid issue, you'll love his choice for next Cub owner.
2 first pitch strikes. I like that
rich has thrown a couple of filthy change ups here in the very early going of this game.
That's alot of johnsons
know I know…twss
by bilbosbuttons on Jul 16, 2009 6:14 PM CDT up reply actions
good change up's so far. lets hope that continues cuz the heat on the fastball is there.
also is it just me or does rich’s rhythm and pace look a lot better? Like he is more in control. Hopefully he has found a nice rhythm and can keep it up
Hope he can keep up that ratio
15 pitches, 10 strikes. :-)
Lets go Cubs!

He started
every batter this inning with a curve. See if the pattern continues.
If you like Selig's handling of the steroid issue, you'll love his choice for next Cub owner.
yeah
i dont see how that is productive. if there is ever a chance to give some guys the encouragement to turn it around and start hot, this is it

Sori
still guessing on 2 strikes.
If you like Selig's handling of the steroid issue, you'll love his choice for next Cub owner.
he always does that check swing on high heat up and in.
its almost like you can tell he is cheating on fastball by starting his hands and bat so early he can’t hold up on a pitch up and in.

In the pregame thread, Al mentioned that he thought the Cubs might be making a move today
I haven’t seen anything on mlbtraderumors, anyone know anything?

When Rich pitches poorly, it's almost exclusively because he can't throw his breaking pitches for strikes

I like Reed Johnson
But I don’t know why Lou wants him for a lead-off hitter. He is not a high OBP guy.

Good point
He might have a decent OBP against lefties, since his batting average is so much higher

I see now
.385 OBP against lefties – nice.
Never mind

wow cannot belive ryan zimmerman threw that routine of a play into the stands.
and zimmerman is no slouch. people that watch this division say zimmerman is probably a better all around player and third basemen than david wright.

ya but lannan is an above average major league pitcher. and zimmerman is an all star.
ordinarily your right but really that run was off those two gusy. how are both above average major leaguers.

This is what happens when Rich doesn't throw first-pitch strikes
There was a piece on ESPN a couple days ago about how awful he is when this happens.
that is why I have been keeping track of it. and right on que it was first time he did not throw strike 1.

And I stand corrected, you didn’t say he did nothing well, you just said you couldn’t figure out what he does well…which functionally implies the same thing.
