Cubs Sign BJ Ryan (Link)
The Chicago Cubs will announce today that they have signed left-handed pitcher B.J. Ryan to a one-year, minor-league deal, according to a Major League Baseball source.
Ryan will report to Mesa, Ariz., to begin building up his arm with minor-league pitching coordinator Mark Riggins.

Saw that too on their twitter page
Good move.

as long as
Marshall stays in the pen, i like it, marhsall has been great in the bullpen this year but not so good in the rotation

He's gotta be a better option that Kevin Hart...
…start Marshall until Demp gets back.

5 innings and 1 run
sure he had 5 walks but he was good enough for a 5th spot

He was in a jam every inning....
…..I tend to think he was more lucky than good. But I guess we have a couple more starts until Ryan is ready to determine that.

I don't even know why it's been discussed
They’re saying Dempster will be back sooner than expected, which means by the time Ryan gets to the big leagues, he’ll be back in the rotation.

Good move
If he can come anywhere close to his numbers in 08…it’ll strengthen our bullpen immensly.
Unfortunately
putting on a Cubs uniform puts you at a disadvantage for matching 2008 numbers.

Great.

According to Paul Sullivan...
…Ryan will go to Mesa and then Iowa. It seems like Marshall will stay in the ’pen as the lone lefty for now.
The unexamined blog is not worth reading.
I'm real happy about this.
It’s a no-risk signing… send him to Iowa for a couple appearances, see what he’s got. If he has anything left, he’s cheap at the minimum salary.

As long as they
make sure he has something BEFORE they put him on the big league roster, I’m think it’s a great move.
PS can you tell us who the catcher is yet?
DEJESUS!!!
Change of scenery, change of league...
….move to a contender. About as fresh of a start as you can get.
Potential:
Downside: He’s got nothing left and we re-live Cotts.
Upside: He turns the second half into 2008 B.J. Ryan.
Could be a good second lefty in the pen if he takes advantage of the fresh start.
Job#1: fix the WHIP number. More strikes, please!
Overall, a good low-risk move. If it works out, he becomes Hendry’s best 2009 signing.

I'm not expecting much,
but I do have hope, trained from Jim Edmonds and Jason Kendall over the past two years, both of whom were playing much worse, comparatively, than Ryan has recently. When you think about it, it would be astounding if Jim Hendry hit gold three years in a row with these kind of players. Even if he doesn’t the last two years’ pickups are a solid rebuttal to the people who claim Hendry’s GM skills are all puffed up by the high salary cap.
Randy Wells - You continue to astound me.
But Hendry's average is weighed down by trying Chad Fox- three times

Then again
we have won the NL Central 2 years in a row and have had a good team several times this decade.

Just what this team needs - another Ryan...
Too bad we can’t get Ryan Howard, Ryan Franklin, Ryan Ludwick, Ryan Zimmerman, or yes, even Ryan Braun… heck, I’d even settle for Nolan Ryan as a pitching coach.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Or maybe this Ryan.

He matches up well with a few of the Cubs height-wise. Seacrest out.
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
I would take the
under in the amount of time Ryan Seacrest could withstand the enormity of playing on the same team as Ted Lilly before he literally explodes.
