BJ Upton?

He has been extended yet

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

I'll be curious what the final numbers are

DJ didn’t develop as some thought, and with his leverage, there was some thought pre-draft that teams would skip him and wait. The Cubs snapped him up, which to me, immediately suggested that Hendry had a line on what it would take to sign DJ, due to his relationship with Paul Maineri. Did DJ sign for slot? Did he sign for overslot? Now, the two big names remaining I think are Aaron Kirk and Brooks Raley.

I’m hoping that the Cubs can rework his swing to create a bit more power. At his best right now, he seems fairly similar to Ryan Flaherty as a player. Will be curious what the Cubs timeline is – I’m guessing a “get your feet wet” week at AZL and a bump to Boise, staying there for the rest of the summer.

who does he run off of a position

lee at short
watkins at second
neither, as lee/watkins gets bumped up to peoria

I responded to a post in another thread

There’s also Dwayne Kemp to keep in mind. But Watkins has played some OF before. It also wouldn’t surprise me if a late bump happened somewhere, although ideally, that would require someone getting hot. That said, LeMahieu can probably handle some 3rd, while getting some opportunities in the middle of the infield. I imagine, after a long season, that this summer will be basically a get your feet wet, learn about pro scheduling type situation for him.

and with darvill in AZ

we prolly won’t need any PTBNL prospects from OAK/BLT/KC. or catchers.

also

I’ll be fairly surprised if Lee gets bumped anytime soon. They’ve got him there with 2 other Korean kids, probably as comfortable as it’s going to be. Add in his youth, and I’ll be surprised. Same goes for Watkins, although I could see that a bit more than Lee. He’s so young. Add in DJ Fitzgerald, Ryan Flaherty, and Junior Lake all capable of handling 2nd base in Peoria, and there’d be a logjam.

agree

And come on! If you watched the CWS you might agree that DJ should have been named the series MVP. I am excited about this kid.

hooray

lemahieu added to list of cubs that have been signed on the cubs website. only one listed this month. i don’t think that is accurate.

Can Bobby Beuche be next on the list?

Apparently Hendry has a thing for ballplayers from the Bayou.

$136 million payroll for a .500 style ballclub. Good work Jim.

It's a good thing too

I think the reasons/motivation behind interest now is slightly different from before, as he now has Maineri’s firsthand observations. We should hopefully be better positioned than a lot of teams when it comes to LSU guys, particularly guys that may slip and/or may require overslot. Nothing against Notre Dame baseball, but having Maineri at an elite program like LSU can help a lot.
