baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Took a walk earlier, no?
"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance
"If [Ruth] had [called his shot], I would have knocked him down with the next pitch." -Charlie Root
yeah
everyone got on base, everyone scored, but Hill the only hitless
That's big talk for a little guy,

Tomorrow
Tomorrow is WGN day on WGN radio a great fundraiser. Should be a good listen.
I had to delete my twitter account. But you can still find me at fanfiction.net under puckish prosecutor.
Ill grant you it isn't that important today, but sure is in a tight game.
I’m all for aggressive baserunning, it’s the mental errors of getting picked off first base that drives me crazy.
by Sandberg's evil twin on Jul 19, 2009 3:21 PM CDT reply actions
who got picked off
of first today?

Hill strikes out.
Only starter without a hit today.
Who’s in to pitch? Is the Shark going another inning?

I thought maybe Stevens would go 2
We should see him in the 9th though
it's only the bottom of the 8th?
sheesh. One pitch, one out. Bard FO7

lol at Len
the last time the Cubs swept a team in DC in four games was during the McKinley administration.
Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.
Let shark finish it...with an 8 run lead
sure is a great bonus to rest the rest of the pen.

the heilman fanshot seems to be gone now
i think it is pretty simple; heilman is walking too many batters. he has been employed full time in mlb now for 6 seasons+; somebody must think he has potential.
why aaron will not throw strikes & challenge hitters w/his fastball that can hit 95+, combined w/ an effective change & a serviceable slider i will NEVER know
hes probablyscared people hit bombs off him
like molina did in the 2006 NLCS

there isa probably a lot
of truth to this, jesus. he is literally scared to come over the plate; his bombs are down but his walks are WAY up. shouldn’t rothschild be helping aaron w/this glitch??

I think today's whipping boy is Hill
Look for a FanPost later tonight.

to pinch hit. And those long flowing locks are slowing him down.

I still think Stevens is going to come in
Lou used everybody on his bench except Bradley and Aram so he let shark hit
Off-topic question.
Does it count as a save for the Shark if he finishes this game? I have seen four-inning saves in situations similar to this one.
For example, there was this game in 2007.

Check the surrounding comments.
If you come into a game and pitch at least the last three innings, you get a save, regardless of what the score is when you come in.

Or if you pitch the last three innnings of a game, regardless of score.
That also counts as a save.

if you pitch the last 3 innings or more of a win regardless of the score you get credited with a save.
by MandMexpress12 on Jul 19, 2009 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions
That explains my question above.

I stand corrected
Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- © He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game
Need to go
start dinner. I’ll be back to post on all the celebration pics later.
Keep up the good work Cubs!!!

If a Nat hits a fly ball in the 9th
Will we get to see Stevens point?

so much of all the save talk since Stevens is coming in to finish there will be no sae.
However if shark pitched this inning he would have gotten a save.
Yes, thanks for explaining it to me.

no because then Marshall wouldn't be used as a LOOGY
or get moved to left field to save the only lefty in the pen.
