Brewers Acquire Felipe Lopez
Solid leadoff type guy who can play 6 positions. Batting .305 this year with 6 HR, 25 RBI, and 6 SB. Now that the Brewers have Lopez and St. Louis acquired DeRo, I think it's time for us to improve.

Good deal for the Brewers
I don’t particularly care for Lopez, but I’m not a big fan of Gillespie, and Mendoza is far off.
anybody 'run the numbers' on this one?
there is that new ‘player evaluator’ site, which can evaluate big leaguers or minor leaguers. i certainly haven’t figured it out, but it sounds very techhie.
i think i heard gillespie and mendoza were milwaukee’s ninth and tenth prospects. i think we have a dozen more impressive sounding than they are.
Let's not go too far (the dozen comment)
I’m not huge on Gillespie, but there were a lot of reasons for folks to like him entering the year. He posted a .281/.386/.472 line at Huntsville (AA) last year. He took walks. The hope was that the K rate would decrease and his power would maintain. Power’s been fine. The K rate hasn’t changed. He had a bad start before seemingly settling down a bit in June. There’s still the potential of a solid major league OF in Gillespie.
Mercedes (not sure why I typed Mendoza) is far off. He never stuck as a starter. Good life on the fastball (can touch mid-90’s I think)/solid curve(?). Roque is a solid looking arm – too bad he couldn’t stick as a starter. Think … think what we gave up in Al Alburquerque.
Personal opinions aside, the deal makes sense for both sides. I’m just not huge on Gillespie, but that’s me.
Yawn...

Yawn is right
Felipe Lopez is nothing to write home about. Brewers acquired him cheaply and he will presumably semi-fill 2nd base. Their much larger issue is starting pitching.
$136 million payroll for a .500 style ballclub. Good work Jim.
It's certainly not the quaking in your boots trade
That the Brewers seem to pull off right around this time of year.
