Aroldis Chapman Defects!
I hope the Cubs make a serious attempt at this guy. He has unbelievable stuff not unlike Stephen Strasburg. I just hope he doesn't end up with the White Sox.
However, the more I think about this, there's no way the Cubs could outlay the cash it would take to get him with the current ownership situation. Perhaps if Chapman takes a few months before he signs anywhere.

man, he would be great in Cubbie Blue!
His mechanics are similar to The Unit. He has electric stuff. This is one of those guys you spend on. You are better off not signing 1/3 of your draft picks and dumping that pool of money into him. 100 MPH heater, mid 80’s slider, low 80’s change and uses a 2-seamer 93-95 range. He could probably by a LOOGY-type the rest of this year and then work into the rotation next year.
Why does Cuba ever play an away game?
Every time they step foot in a country other than Venezuela somebody defects. Cuban players are such a mixed bag. There is a hype every time one defects, and they flame out with the regularity of other players. Wasn’t Ariel Prieto supposed to dominate? The competition and surroundings make it so hard to judge them.
if the bosox or yankees
ever played a game vs. the national team in cuba, fidel himself would inspect the bus before the team left the field. check the trunk. the tire wells. check them again.
Two reasons why they travel abroad
1) They really like the attention it gives the nation. it does a lot for national pride.
2) If these players really wanted to leave, there are other ways to do it. There are people that will sail Cuban citizens to Miami, especially ballplayers since they can get more for the trip from them or US based agents.
The Cuban players are a mixed bag, but special talent is special talent. Guerrero was one of them and I think that Chapman is another.
