Soriano: hot? or not...
Soriano is a bottom feeder. His current “hot” streak correlates with facing poor pitching. Sort of the mirror image of a Derek Jeter or Manny Ramirez. He might fatten his individual numbers, but he’s not gonna help the Cubbies win the big ones.
I don't get this argument.
Aren’t the majority of MLB hitters bottom feeders? This is the reason why aces are aces.
Give me specific examples with numbers to back it up.

Did they really just compare Lopez to Maddux?

I don’t think one bad offseason should get a GM canned. He missed on Bradley, but got it right on Gregg.

But I agree he shouldn’t be canned.

But I keep seeing mlbtraderumors.com put up that the Reds may move Arthur Rhodes. Any chance the Cubs would be interested/have the goods to make a deal for him? Seems like the kind of piece that we could actually afford to add payroll-wise that could actually help us.

terrible pitch by lilly
why does he continue to think he can blow his fastball by hitter?! He throws one before that for 2-2 so Raul can gauge it, then he throws another one right down the middle?! duh…it’s the same thing he does for Chris Young of the Dbacks.
Sorry, I'm trying to forget that he's been our best pitcher for the last 3 years....

I remember two games last year where lilly did the same thing
let the first couple of guys on, got the next two out without giving up a run and then gave up a three run jack.
Against Colordo I think Helton hit the homerun.
Against Atlanta I think Norton hit the home run…anyone else remeber that.
Oh please.
If we can’t hit Rodrigo Lopez we’re in more trouble than a 3 run homer in the first.

Yo, Ted
The idea is to get the other batters OUT. Just in case you forgot.
Also
Try not to throw thirty pitches every inning.
Lilly gave up plenty of HRs before this knee things was brought up
I have a hard time blaming it on that. More like he is facing a good team that is hot in small ballpark

by WanderingWanderer on Jul 20, 2009 6:51 PM CDT up reply actions
That's BS
The reason the Cubs didn’t sign Ibanez is that he cannot play RF. Period. No arm, no range, would have been ugly. Bradley, for all his warts, has been a RF for most of his career. End of discussion.
Ladies and gentlemen! It's 1985 all over again, but this time the offense goes to hell!
it's not the end of the discussion
because Ibanez has played right, and Bradley has not been a rightfielder his entire career.
Just because you act like you know what you’re talking about doesn’t mean you do

Ibanez in RF
You can argue all you want, but the stats say you are wrong.
In his career, Ibanez has played a total of 152 games in RF, none since 2005 and only 11 since 2003. His arm and range are not satisfactory in RF. He was not going to be a Cub unless Soriano changed positions or was traded.
As for Bradley, since leaving the Dodgers in 2005 he has primarily played LF, with the exception of 2007 when he played LF for 40 games for the Padres.
Ladies and gentlemen! It's 1985 all over again, but this time the offense goes to hell!

What was Hill doing in his last AB?
The pitcher is due up next and he didn’t swing at a single pitch… what is he hoping to accomplish? The coaching staff needs to tell him that he swings at the first good pitch and there were 3 4 seamers in a row right down the middle of the plate that he watched go by!
