Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Just back from the game 7/20

It was tough to sit through.  I didn't need a mock standing ovation while heading up the steps of my section with 2 outs in the top of the 9th. I had seats 3 rows from the field.  It was a long walk up!!!! Wearing the 1984 roaSandberg jersey.

Lilly didn't have it.  I don't know if the knee was still bothering him or what. The Phils have the best lineup in the NL. I thought Lilly would hold them.  Guess not.

What happened to the Cubs lineup between 08 and 09? Was losing DeRosa that big?   The Phils pitched Rodrigo Lopez.  Let me repeat, Rodigo Lopez!  Why didn't the Cubs score more against him!?!?!?

Don't get me started on Soriano!!!  How do you drop that ball?!?!?!

A tough game to watch!  My trip to Chicago this year is with family to the Cubs-Phillies series in August.  I hoping the Cubs take 2 of 3. Is that too much to ask?

Hope the Cubs take the next two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't you know? Rodrigo Lopez is Spanish for Doug Davis...

(yes, I know I said this in the game threads. Well, consider me a green comedian – I recycle my material…)

Probably the Ugliest Game of the Year

sorry you had to sit through that. The Phils really impressed me tonight, though. I have watched them a bit this year, and their hitting has always impressed me, but they were just relentless tonight. Victorino refusing to just let Theriot tag him out up 5-0, catchers attempting pickoffs, Werth throwing behind Fukudome on a routine single. They just do a lot of things right, and combine that with the best offensive lineup in the NL (imho), they’re a very, very good team.

There's nothing wrong with the Cubs...

…that couldn’t be cured by playing the Nationals every night. I enjoyed the weekend sweep as much as anybody but now it’s time to come back down to Earth. The Cubs don’t belong on the same field with a team like the Phillies.

It's one game. Careful of those broad sweeping statements. The Cubs have looked

like world beaters for one game and stunk it up the next.

How 'bout we let the series play out?

And even that won’t be a definitive statement.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

Soriano deserves a ton of heat.

But lets not put this game on him. His defense is always going to be mediocre. What’s more important to me is that his bat is heating up (slowly). Over his last ten games he’s 14/35 and lifted his BA to .244. Small sample size I know, but it’s a good sign none-the-less.

It was a bad loss. A really bad loss on national TV. But honestly, it was one game, who cares. I would bet the players don’t. To them it was just one game and they’ll move on to winning tomorrow.

Ted Lilly had an awful game. I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt, because of his success so far this year. Again, it was one game. Although if he has back to back bad games, I’ll begin to wonder about the injury.

Finally to PhillyCub I’d say three things. One, awesome seats…too bad you didn’t see a better game. Two, why did you leave before the game was officially over? You only made it harder on yourself! Three, don’t let the Phillies fans get to you.

I KNOW THE FEELING......

It was hard to sit at Comerica Park last month . ( As the Cubs had a total meltdown ) . But there are 2 more games in Philly . No one thought the series with them would be easy did they ?? For all the Cubs have been thru they are only a couple game out .

by cubs north on Jul 21, 2009 12:00 AM CDT reply actions

Exactly.

Lou said it the other day, here in Chicago you win a couple games you’re on top of the world. You lose one and everyone acts like the sky is falling (to paraphrase). This is also the reason why the “old timers” laugh at the new generation of Cubs fans. They overreact. They are spoiled by the recent success (this is coming from a 27 year old btw) and expect winning to come easily.

We’ve got Harden (a great road pitcher this year) going against Fat Blanton. Call me crazy but I think we win tomorrow and have a good shot at winning the series with Z on the hill Wednesday.

Everyone take a deep breath, the sun will rise again tomorrow.

Looking at what we've seen

This team plays like a .500 ball club (not far off from it) and given the large payroll, I’m a bit annoyed by it.

And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

AMEN. Just get in the playoffs

and then roll the dice with the other three NL teams. After the last two seasons, I would not mind being the underdog if we make the postseason.
