Don't you know?
By posting this, you are responsible for every single bad thing that happens in the world. You will be responsible for the next terrorist attack. You will be responsible for the perversion of our youth.
People will FIND this video now. They will find it and look at it and do unseemly things and giggle and snarf.
Or at least, that’s how it was put to me by sue213150811 or whatever her name is. She might have a different reaction to you.

Worf, if you have half the Klingon brain I think you do...
…then you ought to know it’s not always what is said, but how it’s said. That’s just how us puny Earthlings are. And I’m sure you also realize that you and SWL have differing styles.
That being said, I still fail to see how this (the EA peeping tom thing) relates to baseball in any way, and I don’t know what good can come from giving it any additional exposure (no pun intended) by posting something here. So, as a demonstration of my moral consistency, let me say in my best Ronald Reaganesque voice…

In a nutshell
I posted this thing about Erin Andrews on Saturday, without a link. In fact, I refused to provide one, because some sites were still linking to the video.
I stated that I thought it was vile, reprehensible and disgusting.
ballhawk objected on “non-baseball grounds” but her Sueness basically said I was causing the downfall of civilization just by posting it. I deleted the thread.
Meanwhile, someone was on there bragging about seeing the video and Sue kind of mildly castigated him, yet treated me like I was scum for posting it.
Now, that one of her buddies has posted it, I’m anxious to see how she reacts. My guess is that we will find out the issue wasn’t the topic, but the poster.
In other words, we’ll find out she’s a hypocritical fraud with a bone to pick with me.

I just didn't/don't see a need for it.
Yes, it’s OT and was clearly labeled as such. That’s not the issue. And I share Worf’s view that it was vile reprehensible and disgusting. But because it was such a v/r/d act, I saw no reason to promote its existence. And I appreciate that Worf did not post a link, but c’mon – anyone with half a google for a brain could easily find such a link once they knew the video existed.
Without getting political, I guess I drew parallels to the whole Valerie Plame undercover spy controversy when columnist Robert Novak ‘outed’ her in his column, thereby blowing her cover. What possible good could come from that? Obviously covert operations differs greatly from hotel room undressings, so you may not see that as a good comparison, but that’s how I felt. And that’s why I objected.

But most of the sports blogs had it Friday. (Some had the video earlier, but weren’t sure it was her) Andrews’ lawyers confirmed it was her Saturday morning.

Supposedly, this took place in Omaha
during the College World Series.
If that’s true, ESPN could REALLY come down hard here. They could basically say, "Here’s the deal, Mr/Ms. Omaha Mayor and Mr./Ms. Omaha Convention and Tourism Bureau. Until you spit out the hotel employee who assisted with this, we will not cover the College World Series so long as it is in your town.
And how long do you think it will take the NCAA to move it, once we remove our support?"

Heh... I KNEW you were going there
You’re so predictable. Predictably wrong.
Revealing information about where a celebrity is staying may not be against the law, but it is certainly against most hotel procedures. We’re talking something that could endanger physical safety, not just cause potential embarrassment.
Someone could just as easily have kidnapped Erin Andrews as videotaped her, if they had her room information.
Then there is the question of whether or not the hotel employee KNEW what the friend was up to. He is then liable. Even if he didn’t know, he surely has put it together by now and should be coming forward.
(All of this is assuming there IS an hotel employee who helped, of course)
So, no, it’s not the same. But nice try.

2) Poster reports story on blog. Does not provide link to video. Repeats sports blogs. Information does not lead to a crime being committed.
IF the employee did not know what was up, then yeah, he or she is guilty of nothing more than violating hotel procedures. But guess what? That’s a firable offense!

It IS a huge stretch to say that Worf posting it is the same as a hotel employee disclosing where she was staying.

regardless of your opinion, this is news
I work for a newspaper and so I constantly hear complaints about how the newspaper always prints the bad stuff. Well guess what? The bad stuff is news, that’s what the newspaper is in business for. The good stuff still gets printed, but the bad stuff is what gets read the most. That’s human nature. People are interested in other people’s suffering.
By publishing news reports, maybe someone that knows something about the taping will see some report a few weeks from now and come forward, you never know. But either way, this is a news item and deserves to be covered.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it. The headline should give you an idea if it’s meant for you.

No, I was BCB's
Associated Press, who broke the story first. (Actually, the blogs did, but AP was the first mainstream)
Had I been the NY Post, I would have put links, still shots and other stuff from the video.
I would have made it easy, under the guise of “reporting”
I did not make it easy. Someone still had to look for it.
It would be akin to reviewing a movie or book and calling it smut. That would cause some to stay away and some to run for the theater or bookstore.

Bill O'Rilley
has had what appears to be much the same reaction that you did.
Yesterday we noticed that Fox News was hyping a Bill O’Reilly “investigation” into the naked Erin Andrews peephole video incident, prompting us to wonder, “Will the ole smut-merchant show the video on the air?” Well, of course he would, duh!
Now, O’Reilly, and Fox News in general, have a long history with this sort of thing. He’ll bloviate righteously about softcore porn on YouTube or underage strippers or how the Make-A-Wish foundation turned down money from a bikini car wash fundraiser or whatever, and all the while he’ll have salacious clips running over the audio of he and his guests mouthing off about the gross injustice of whatever it is they’re talking about. So you just knew that O’Reilly would take this whole thing straight into the gutter, and he did not disappoint.
While O’Reilly is setting the segment up by giving background on the story to his viewers, footage of the “criminal” video is played. He then turns to his guests, the standard set of painfully Aryan Fox News babes, to begin their discussion, but before he does he says speaks righteously about the video clip he just played on his show:
We’re not gonna show you anymore of that ladies and gentlemen…I gotta show you what they think is criminal intent here, but, you know, I’m not gonna show anymore video of it because this is ultra-disturbing and I think it’s a very serious crime.
Classic. Just classic Bill O’Reilly slimeballage, wrapped up neatly under the guise of “investigative reporting.”
Now, ESPN is taking a hard line against any news organization that shows footage of the video or even publishes still images taken from it. Today they lashed out at the New York Post, effectively issuing a “you’re dead to me” order to the paper and banning the Post and it’s reporters from all aspects of the ESPN empire after they ran still photos from the video in Tuesday’s edition of the paper. It’ll be interesting to see if they do the same thing with Fox and/or other Rupert Murdoch media properties after this.
Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.

isn’t the most accurate description here.
IF there was a hotel employee helping, then he or she gave out information that shouldn’t be revealed.
Nothing good would possibly come of revealing that information. At best, Erin Andrews is going to be pestered by people knocking on her door or waiting in the hallway. At worst, she could have been abducted or physically assaulted.

NO one would have known that a sick voyeur had secretly videotaped ESPN reporter Erin Andrews nude in her hotel room, if the Mickey Mouse sports network hadn’t sent a letter to an obscure Web site demanding that it take down its link to a fuzzy video of an unidentified blonde … Last Thursday, [website redacted], which had linked to the Andrews shots, got a letter from ESPN counsel David Pahl demanding the "pictures of a young, blonde woman" be removed. It didn’t take long for Web sites to identify the blonde as Andrews — and her lawyer soon confirmed it.
