SI's Top 100 Players in Baseball
Brought to you by Joe Posnanski. It seems that these are his current rankings, taking current performance into account, otherwise I dont know how Pablo Sandoval could be rated higher than any Cub.

What a horsecrap list
Ted Lilly isn’t on that list? Really Joe? Thats okay though you take Jarrod Washburn, I’ll take Ted Lilly.
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

I think it's being judged on this year
and with Posnanski’s background, that’s not that surprising. I think both guys have overachieved this year, and I think both are about at a similar level of talent.

Jason Bartlett??
Was this fictional? Is there an alternate baseball league I’m not awae of?

Well...
Bartlett is one of the more underrated players in the game. Great leadership skills and a slick glove at shortstop to go along with an offensive game that has blossomed in Tampa Bay.
Cubs will win 79 to 83 games. Season has been over for weeks. St. Louis will eventually run away with this division. And you can print it. BLou (7/21/09)

I've ggot the guy on my fantasy team
When Drew went down, Bartlett has been amaing for me.
But honestly, is he really a better player than Ramirez, Lee, and Lilly? Would you really put him around 50?

eh, i think i know why he's rated higher than any cub
because he’s playing better than any cub right now.

why not take washburn over lilly?
washburn has had a better career and is having a better year than lilly.

Yeah Ted is better
See Ted pitches more than 200 innings a year. He’s been crap for a number of years now, and is having a nice season, but isn’t the consistent pitcher that Ted is.
This whole list seems like a strange joke. Injuries apparently matter, but Chris Carpenter is ranked 40. Adam Wainwright is ranked higher than Carlos Zambrano? Ryan Franklin makes this list? I must have a different criteria for ranking baseball players.
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

Pablo Sandoval is a superstar in the making
He is a great emerging talent that is starting to draw comparisons to Albert Pujols. If you watch this kid play then you will understand why he is on the list.
Cubs will win 79 to 83 games. Season has been over for weeks. St. Louis will eventually run away with this division. And you can print it. BLou (7/21/09)

They're making it
To this year though. He should be on the list, but not 25th.

SI's version of the BCS?
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

Here's the thing about this list.
He says,
Here’s the idea: We’re looking for the Top 100 players in baseball RIGHT NOW. We’re not talking about the best in two years. We’re not talking about building a team to win over the next 10 years. There are no Stephen Strasburgs here, no Matt Wieters and, frankly, no B.J. Uptons, either. I love B.J. Upton’s potential. But the last year and a half … I just don’t think he’s quite a Top 100 player.
Well, what do you mean by “RIGHT NOW”? If you mean, “whoever will end up with the best 2009 stats,” that’s one thing, but what if “RIGHT NOW” means going forward from today to the end of the season? If that’s what it means, how does B.J. Upton not make the list? Given Upton’s talent, given that he finally looks healthy again, how is he not a better player than Franklin Gutierrez (#94)?
I’m making a point of this because it comes into play for a lot of our discussions about trade candidates. Pre-season, Freddy Sanchez looked like a player likely to hit .300/.335/.425 at his best. The fact that he’s hit .306/.345/.458 so far this season doesn’t mean that’s what he’ll hit over the rest of the season. Indeed, a month ago when everyone wanted Sanchez, he was hitting .319/.358/.493. He’s been hitting .260/.300/.329 since.
So, how do you really tell who’s the best player RIGHT NOW?
Randy Wells - You continue to astound me.
