Perfect Game
Mark Buehrle just tossed a perfect game against the Tamp Bay Rays. I know that it is the White Sox and all but WOW, he has really been pitching well for them and a perfect game is quite an accomplishment. There has not been a perfect game tossed sine the 2004 season.
Kudos and congrats to Buerhle and the White Sox fans. I think that he has been a class act for them and a hell of a pitcher. Coming into this season, I really thought his best days were behind him but I guess not.

He now has a no hitter and a perfect game.
Impressive to say the least. How many guys have done that in their careers?

RJ did
that too, right?

Koufax was one
He had four no-hitters, including one perfecto. Cy Young also had both a no-hitter and a perfect game, and there were a few others as well to do it. But a very small group, obviously!

Well, I gotta believe that
that might be all of ‘em. I think I heard that this was only the 16th Perfect Game in Major League history, and we’ve already named 4 guys that have both the Perfect and the No-No. So unless any of the remaining 12 have done it, Buerhle becomes one of only four guys to do that. Not bad, not too bad at all.

Make that at least five - my sister-in-law's uncle did it.
And he was the only Senator to do it… ;-)

Senator Jim Bunning… ;-)
No-hitter when he was with the Tigers and a perfect game with the Phillies.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Ah, okay
Was thinking a completely different kind of Senator.

K, we're
up to 6. And I guess I was incorrect in stating above that this was the 16th ever Perfect Game…apparently Mark’s is number 18.

Very impressive
Buehrle seems like a pretty good guy and i like watching him pitch- Wise made an incredible catch…
Exciting decade
Even the biggest Sox-hater here has to tip their hat to the White Sox this decade. They’’ve made the playoffs four times, won the World Series once, and now have two no-hitters, including a perfect game, from Buehrle, a really classy guy. As a Chicago fan, I’m happy to see it.
"They found a delivery in my flaw." - Dan Quisenberry
agreed that buehrle is a class act...
best thing about this is that AJ wasn’t catching it……as much as i respect buehrle, i detest AJ…
Buehrle
I agree with the poster who said he had thought Buehrle’s best days were behind him. – I had also thought that and obviously I was wrong.
He’s talked about retiring in a few years, but I hope he doesn’t. He just turned 30, and has 134 wins. He has a legitimate shot at winning 300 if he can average 15 a year until he’s 40. Since he’s never had any health problems, he might just be able to do it. Ozzie has to let him pitch deeper into games more often though. This game aside, I think Ozzie has been quicker to pull Buehrle in recent years, which of course results in more no decisions.
"They found a delivery in my flaw." - Dan Quisenberry
That''s awesome
His name will be in the history books forever, a truly phenomenal performance. And did you see Wise’s ABSURD catch in the 9th? That was just nuts!

For what it's worth...
the Cubs didn’t allow any hits or base runners today either. :-)
I heart the riot. (www.riotshirts.com)
And the offensive output reverted back to normal.

Soriano didn't strike out either
But I’m a little concerned about their walk total.
i'm happy for buerhle
i’m not happy that i will have to hear about it for the next 25 years from the most obnoxious fans in baseball
the only thing that would have made this day better for mark is if he did it in a cardinals jersey lol
They earned bragging rights
Can’t wait to watch the replay!
Bragging rights? Because one of their starters threw a perfect game?
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

Yup
Just like we got bragging rights for Z’s no hitter.
Just remind them that a perfect doesn’t change that their fans suck.
I didn't brag about that...that's stupid.

As I posted in the FanShot...
… tip o the cap to the Rays, who applauded the achievement. Class acts all the way around.
This is why, if the Cubs ever do get no-hit, I will applaud. Not because they lost the game, but because baseball history was made. Those who don’t understand this aren’t real baseball fans.

and if it's Game 7 of the NLCS
and the Cubs get no hit? It’s history.

Um...
… in that case, I don’t think I’d be quite as magnanimous.
Since there has been only one no-hitter (Larsen’s perfect game) in postseason history, I’m pretty sure the chances of that happening are very small.

True that
I can’t not give someone a good ribbing if I see the opportunity open, I’m sorry. Haha.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle
honestly, absurd hypotheticals searching for a philosophical loophole are insulting.
What would you do if the cubs were about to win the world series in a 7th game and you had an instantly fatal condition that could be completely cured if you took a pill that worked only when your right pinky toe tingled but would leave you comatose for 2 weeks. Otherwise, you drop dead in moments.
And an asteroid was bearing down on the planet.
So your pinky toe starts tingling with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and you know that you’ll die within seconds unless you ingest the pill and put yourself out of commission for two weeks so you’ll never see the outcome of the game, nor the celebration and chances are 50/50 that the asteroid wipes out civilization and you awaken to a desolate wasteland.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO!!!!!!?????

Or write another lengthy response to more satire and make myself look like more of a fool. Either way.

He deserves extra kudos
For managing a perfect game in front of that ham-handed White Sox defense.
I saw the highlight catch in centerfield on TV at lunchtime, but I also remember all of the lousy glovework in the crosstown games that I saw this year.

What a great performance by Buehrle!
He got some great defensive help, but beyond that he was incredible on the mound. Congratulations on a perfect game!

I was in the car driving back from Philly when this game was on.
Heard the last 3 innings on the radio. A lot of people don’t like Ed Farmer as a play by play man, but I thought he made a real nice call of the final inning.

mark Buehlre is no greg maddux
Mark Buehrle is awsome and if he was in the Cubs o0rganization they would of let him leave 4 years ago to make salary room for Soriono and Kosuke FukoDome. he would of been another greg maddux instead he will play most of his entire hall of fame career in Chicago…for da sox
Thats silly at best
That’s silly at best.
It amazes me people use something from 17 years ago still. Are you the guy that bugged MacPhail about it every year at the convention when Andy was in Minnesota 3 years from joining the Cubs when it happened?
I had to delete my twitter account. But you can still find me at fanfiction.net under puckish prosecutor.
Who are you responding to?
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
So what is more of a dominating pitching effort
5/6/98 or 7/23/09???
I don’t remember a hard-hit ball off of Woody, certainly not one that nearly cleared the yellow line by a foot, foot-and-a-half.
There’s been 18 perfect games, at least one of them in post season play.
There’s been only 4 times, 20 batters were struck out in 9-innings, 2 by one guy; Clemens.
Yes, Buehrle went 27-up, 27-down… with some serious defencive help. However which performance was more mystifying to opposing hitters? That slurve Woody used to throw (and possibly a contributor to his injury issues) absolutely baffled the ’stros that day.
Just win the next game...!
You can't top tperfect
