Baseball-Playing Robots
A Japanese professor has created robots that play baseball. This should further stir the debate between stats-minded folks and those who wish to emphasize the human component of baseball.

Cubs need to look into this....
Any payroll wiggle-room needs to be devoted to this RIGHT HERE.

hold on hold on hold on
there aren’t twelve models
they don’t look like us
they don’t feel like us
and they have no plan.
Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.
Yeah, this sucks. They're not even hot.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
The pitching robot throws 25 mph strikes.
Can we trade Aaron Heilman for him?

Can they pitch and hit
Lefty?

I really don't see what this has to do with the stats vs. scouting debate...
…but an interesting article nonetheless. If the scientist in question can work the robots up to game speed, these hideous, glistening machines could really take batting cages to the next level.

In my description about this article...
…in which I make a reference to stats-folks and the human elements of baseball, I meant to imply that, in my opinion, a player’s numbers don’t always tell the whole story about his “game.” I’ve heard some people argue (not on BCB necessarily) that “robots don’t play the game; humans do.” I thought that this article was ironic because it refers to robots “playing” baseball.
Let’s hope that humans, in baseball, aren’t going to be expendable!
