this is why Z
batted instead of fox before being taken out, he’s our only back up catcher
Go Cubs Go, Fly Eagles Fly, http://twitter.com/mlbtrivia
well shit
still all we need is an out, that’s all that matters
I'm a lefty, maybe Lou should give me a shot for a position in the bullpen!!
I think I'm just gonna let 'em keep bitching in that last thread...

Something drastic
Santo gunning down everybody on the 25-man except Andres Blanco. And then beating Judd Sirott to death with one of his artificial legs.

Pudge Ks on the high heat!
Let’s go top of the order!
"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance
"If [Ruth] had [called his shot], I would have knocked him down with the next pitch." -Charlie Root
I dont get Lou
You just don’t bat Fontenot there. If he is playing the numbers, he would know that Fox hits rightys and leftys better than Fonty
Stevens is solid
I love the kid, maybe we get him the win tonight right here

Trying to sneak the squeeze in
Seems to be the consensus
"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance
"If [Ruth] had [called his shot], I would have knocked him down with the next pitch." -Charlie Root
if thats the case
you use Blanco
the decision made zero sense
you take a high risk play (works maybe 50% of the time) instead of an 85% chance to win if you simply let the AB play out
a DP or K are the only results we can’t win the game on

I know his thought
but my god, i am just so tired of these moves by Lou, letting Z hit in the 7th, and this in the 9th.
by niuhuskie224 on Jul 27, 2009 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions
Why is that on Lou?
Fontenot bunted through a great pitch to hit. Would’ve ended the game right there most likely. This was on Fontenot, NOT LOU.
Z hit a double tonight. I don’t get your logic.

Fox hits balls to outfield most of the time as well..and he was coming into the game to catch either way

i sure hope so

pretty important game to be mismanaging.
No, Fontenot could have won it
Of course, he put together a rotten lineup by batting Johnson first. And he let Zambrano hit in the 7th.
Lou isn’t blameless, but Fontenot should have bunted the ball.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
the bunt
should never have been called
there are so many ways that AB can go where we win just by letting it play out, he was forcing something that wasn’t necessary with a pitcher who was struggling to find the plate (making it even more difficult to execute)
by DartmouthCubsFan on Jul 27, 2009 10:12 PM CDT up reply actions
And ironically
the pitch he whiffed on was right within distance.
Of all the bad things that happen there — foul bunt, bunt pop-up — the last thing I expected was a whiff.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
the point is
there are a lot more bad things that can happen on that play than in a normal AB
no point to squeeze there

the bat is out
of Jakes hands AGAIN… this is on the manager. Lou should have let Fox bat on the double switch that put the leprecon up for the failed squeeze
only he didn't put Fonty in the game to MISS the bunt.

that's a pretty poor argument
i’m guessing he didn’t put blanco in there to ground out to second, but that was a pretty probable result given history

"Do you want a bunch of duds walking around with their shoulders slumped and having no emotions, no feelings?" Bradley said. "I don’t think the fans want that. I think they want a guy who’s going to get into the game and feel a little bit. I’ve always said, ‘I don’t really play baseball, I feel it.’ "

The squeeze was a busted play man…it’s NOT Lous fault font didn’t execute
by bilbosbuttons on Jul 27, 2009 10:28 PM CDT up reply actions
A sac is a hell of a lot more predicable
than all the things that go wrong with a squeeze.
its his fault
for putting a player in a position he’s not accustomed to executing
not too mention in a situation that didn’t need a squeeze
80% of the possible results in that spot end in a run scoring
by DartmouthCubsFan on Jul 27, 2009 10:29 PM CDT up reply actions
Font isn't capable of a bunt because it isn't a "usual" situation for him?

FOUR
by DartmouthCubsFan on Jul 27, 2009 10:34 PM CDT up reply actions
He should still be able to lay it down!!!
It’s a bunt for chrissakes!!! I don’t care how many times he’s done it, he should be able to do it
by bilbosbuttons on Jul 27, 2009 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions
and i don't care how many times a manager
makes obvious mistakes
his job is to put players in the best position to succeed
for example doing things they’re accustomed to doing successfully
that is his job
while fontenot failed at his job, so did the manager by putting his player in a position to fail
by DartmouthCubsFan on Jul 27, 2009 10:39 PM CDT up reply actions
There are many major leaguers that can't lay down bunts.

This is why you do NOT manage every inning like a playoff game
You try to think AHEAD and remember you MIGHT STILL NEED a bench player or pitcher.

But the pitcher had walked THREE guys that inning. Why try something like that when it’s proven that the pitcher can’t get the ball in the strike zone?
