Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

And they didn't give up Kyle Drabek to do it. Phillies are a very, very good team. They have a solid chance of repeating in 2009 if somehow Brad Lidge can get his act back together.

I think that effectively shuts the door on a two-team trade for Halladay

It’ll take a three-team deal for Toronto to dump Halladay now. The Phillies made a good move here.

And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

Jim Hendry should swoop in

and go ahead and include Theriot in an empty-the-farm deal for Halladay and Scutaro.

Think J.P. would give any value to including Theriot in a deal?

Um no...

As much as I’d like to see Halladay in a Cubs uniform, giving up the farm for him is a bad idea. The Jays want to dump Halladay while they can still get something for him. Look for a three team deal. If it involves the Cubs getting Halladay, so much the better. However, I highly doubt that we’d get so lucky.

You wouldn't offer 3-4 of our prospects and Theriot

for Roy Halladay and Scutaro?

I think I would.

I just don't think J.P. would have any interest

in acquiring Theriot.

Theriot?

They want prospects and not someone at Theriot’s age.

That would equal lots of Randy Wellses

Just hate sitting back

While other teams are fixing their holes or just adding quality . Cubs have holes to fill . Especially at second base .. Seems Fontenot is just a sure out .. Really hoping Cubs would pick up Sanchez . 300 hitter … Seems like the Pirates are having a fire sale ..

i'd love to see the cardinals unload

a couple more top prospects to get a fifth starter to junk wellemeyer. or the brewers unload escobar for a starter to replace whichever chum they’re least sold on.

Fred Sanchez not good?

Since when? I’d take on the Cubs.

No, he's really not good.

Not that great defensively. Largely a singles hitter. Owed 8 million dollars.

We can get similar value from Baker/Fonty for 1/8th of the price. Thank goodness the Giants signed him.

sure

but when you discount deeply, people will even buy your betamax.

Baker is doing a pretty good job at 2b. He and Blanco and Fonty can handle it.

Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.

Yikes.

With a staff like that, the Cubs had better get more right-handed if they want to succeed against the Phillies in the playoffs.

Nah

They’re completely beatable unless Hamels finds it again. If he does, they’re very scary.

this is a great move for Philly

and a better one than if they sold the farm to Toronto

Philly didn't give up that much

I don’t know much about Phillies prospects, but all of those guys are significantly flawed. I think the Phillies came out very well on this deal. I’m not sold on what the Indians got.

And Ben Francisco is a nice player. He’d have been a perfect reed johnson replacement.
