If you go with Soto there, then you have spent your back-up catcher in a potential extra inning game. Baker was the right call. Now they still have Soto for later.

I think Sori

Like all those at-bats

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. [ibid] This is the kind of fan I am.

by drewishdrewid on Jul 3, 2009 4:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Because the continuous at-bats

That he’s been getting, in which he hasn’t hit, because there is something wrong with him (knees) he’s just going to magically start hitting by continuing to play?

by Hilary Lee on Jul 3, 2009 4:09 PM CDT up reply actions

if that's what the problem is

then he should be on the DL. I have to believe that Lou is not subservient to his players, and therefore sat Sori to give him some rest, and then put him back out there to start hitting again.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. [ibid] This is the kind of fan I am.

by drewishdrewid on Jul 3, 2009 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think subservience has anything to do with it

But I CAN see it being the case, given what we know about Sori, for him to lie and say that he’s fine, that his knees aren’t that bad, because he wants to play everyday and feels responsible for the offense with Rami out. Unless a guy is physically unable to walk, it’s hard for trainers / managers to know how bad pain is if the player won’t tell them.

by Hilary Lee on Jul 3, 2009 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Lou's been a manager for a long time.

I have to believe he sees through that.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. [ibid] This is the kind of fan I am.

by drewishdrewid on Jul 3, 2009 4:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't be surprised

if the benching for two days had to do with it, but ultimately, Lou might WANT Sori to be healthier than he is, because if he is healthy, his bat is very useful

by Hilary Lee on Jul 3, 2009 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions

well,

maybe that’s true too. I think that if we win today, he sits tomorrow.

by drewishdrewid on Jul 3, 2009 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions

I just want him on the DL

because I really do think he’s hurt and I think that might help him. Imagine going up there for every at-bat with your knees aching in the back of your head… how are you supposed to concentrate on the strike zone?

by Hilary Lee on Jul 3, 2009 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

I think that's extreme, I hope no one is serious about that

Yeah.. remember when they said he was only able to go one inning?

I guess his knee’s better now, which probably explains a lot about his early season struggles (That and adjusting to the new team).

Soriano, our leadoff guy, is the only Cub Starter who didn't get on base today.

I’m not opposed to keeping him in the lineup to get him AB’s, but let’s give him some off days to work on his timing and bat him 7th or so..
