Rosenthal saying Cubs are talking to Pirates about Grabow to complement Marshall. I would think that might mean temporary replacement of Marshall for a rotation spot?

Not a bad idea...depending on what you give.

I've got a bunch of Dr. Grabow pipes

Do it.

It’s clear the Pirates are completely clearing house. I bet he’d come very cheap.

He won't come cheap

Pittsburgh has gotten excellent returns on McLouth, Wilson, Snell and Sanchez. Grabow will cost a solid quality talent.

Cubs will win 79 to 83 games. Season has been over for weeks. St. Louis will eventually run away with this division. And you can print it. BLou (7/21/09)

They got a great return

on Sanchez. They got ok returns on the other guys.

Everytime I read Grabow's name, I think of the word "grabass."

And I’m not even sure that’s a word.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

by daver on Jul 30, 2009 11:41 AM CDT reply actions

well, should he join the Cubs

I’m sure the “grabass” photos posted when he enters the game will be at a minimum.

MLB Trade Rumors

By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 1:27pm CST]

1:27pm: SI’s Jon Heyman says the Cubs and Pirates are in “serious discussions” about Grabow.

I'm guessing either Flatherty or Lee will be involved. Along with probably a pitcher or two.

Or maybe if we’re lucky they’ll take Tyler KKKKK-Colvin.

Randy Wells. A product of the Roy Halladay School of Pitching, located in Toronto, Canada. Possible relocation.

by Cub Style on Jul 30, 2009 2:03 PM CDT up reply actions

i hope not on

lee or flaherty. they will probably want an infielder, though. i would maybe part with junior lake.

by tim815 on Jul 30, 2009 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Considering the Pirates' hauls, they'll probably want one of the two.

But they can have Colvin and his massive strikeout totals.

by Cub Style on Jul 30, 2009 2:31 PM CDT up reply actions

well, since the post already exists

let’s see what BCB is illing to cough up from the minors for grabow.

i’ll go Ryan Keedy and Jake Muyco

by tim815 on Jul 30, 2009 2:04 PM CDT reply actions

I doubt Lee is part of a trade

The Pirates need some more arms. A rookie league SS can’t be that appealing to them. Plus, the Cubs don’t even know what they have in Lee yet. Can’t see the Pirates demanding him in return for a major leaguer. I’d look for a AA or above arm to be part of any deal.

by Nibbles on Jul 30, 2009 2:19 PM CDT reply actions

Well they need some heir apparent at SS.

we don't need to give them one

just cuz they want it. here’s hoping bj ryan looks good soon.

by tim815 on Jul 30, 2009 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions

They got Cedeno from the Mariners

As far as the Pirates go they are set at SS

by Nibbles on Jul 30, 2009 2:55 PM CDT reply actions

kill me....

a lefty that doesn’t get lefties out and has command issues…. terrific

so our manager can use him in all the wrong situations and then banish him to bullpen limbo

yeah this sounds like a terrific way to use prospects

Per MLB Traderumors:

2:56pm: Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Cubs and Pirates are discussing a deal that would send Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny to Chicago. No deal is in place and other teams remain interested in Grabow.

I like this trade

Depending on the price. The Pirates have been ripping people off all week, hopefully Jim is smarter.

aaron heilman with runners on base in a close game nervous

by tim815 on Jul 30, 2009 3:22 PM CDT reply actions

I think they had some intrest in Sherril

But he’s now off the table, as the Dodgers have acquired him. Only for two minor leaguers Josh Bell and Steve Johnson. Josh Bell is a third basemen, their tenth prospect, according to minor league ball, no better than Colvin or Castro. Johnson is a righty, and wasn’t even in their top 20 list, probably no better than Atkins. Would that have been worth it?

castro>>>>>>>colvin

they can have him.too many outfielders in pitt. they oughtn’t want him. any more than junior lake, i’ll be pissed.

isn’t josh bell a violinist?

by tim815 on Jul 30, 2009 3:30 PM CDT up reply actions

i think

it could have been but if the Dodgers didnt really have to give away anything i cant see why the Cubs didnt try and do the same

by Aramis Ramirez on Jul 30, 2009 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Bell is better than both of them...

Bell is a great hitter and if he finds his power will be like a David Wright type hitter.

by Cub Style on Jul 30, 2009 4:57 PM CDT up reply actions

it sounds like its done

no idea who we gave up… i’m terrified

i will say this… Gorzelanny is a nice get because he provides some much needed starting pitching depth but Grabow… i just dont see him working out with Pineilla given how Lou “used” Scott Eyre

by DartmouthCubsFan on Jul 30, 2009 3:32 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, that's a good point

I wasn’t thinking about that in the other thread . . .
