I think I know why

The Cubs aren’t playing well. On Thursday, I went to the game and sat with Al’s group in the bleachers. D-Lee hit two homers and had 7 RBIs, clearly because I was there and we share a last name. I’ve been in Wisconsin for the last two games and the Cubs offense has disappeared.

Coincidence?

I’m not so sure.

how can we say the offense has "disappeared" today?

it is still early. granted they left a lot of men on base in the first two innings, but we still have six innings to go. Yesterday—yes, the offense sucked, and it was clearly his fault for not going to the game!!

by drewishdrewid on Jul 4, 2009 1:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

how?

we are losing 9-2. it would take an outstanding and very rare comeback to win. there is a chance of rain. now, it’s moot by now, since the game is nearly official, but in theory hoping for rain when your team is getting destroyed is not ridiculous; it’s part of the game.

why bring the infield in when there is no force at home?

why are the cubs sacrificing so much to keep this guy? not being snarky, i just don’t know. is he such a good prospect that they will essentially play with a 24 man roster all eyar in win-now mode just to keep him?

you often bring the infield in with a runner on third and less than two out

and it’s usually when there ISN’T a force, because you want more time to make the throw and get the tag down.

It would be a move that would allow us to keep some of the hot youngsters we have up right now, and solve the Soriano problem

Nice to know that we had no use for this guy!

Hendry is the world’s biggest idiot.

Yeah

Isn’t it amazing how Hendry(and his manager) will pick up any retread major leaguer and put him right in the lineup yet he will never give one of our own kids a regular shot to win a job!

deep left, Sorano backpedals to the vines, and makes the catch.

Anyone else notice.....

No little hops for Soriano on his catches today.

Not trying to be all philosophical here, but think he is not as “pumped” as normal hitting #6??

Not that it matters at all, I am thankful he is down at 6, but just an observation…..

he does it

when he needs to for timing. Perhaps he didn’t feel he needed to do it. Can’t do it when you’re running, anyway.

look

diss Soriano for blowing the play earlier. Diss him for playing poorly. I think it’s in bad taste, but at least there’s a reason.

But if the ump blew the call, how is that Soriano’s fault?

no one's blaming Soriano

for THAT particular at bat……….bad call? ok……….but you can argue that it was a bad call on Fox yesterday………..if not for that bad call we could be down 2-1 in this series

by plenz on Jul 4, 2009 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

you don't know what would have happened

if Fox had been out. There was still another out to go in that inning, and the bases still would have been loaded.

And you ARE blaming Soriano for THAT particular at bat.

protect the plate means

don’t take anything CLOSE

either way, he was hitless before that at-bat

by ElHijoDelRonSanto on Jul 4, 2009 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

he didn't think

it was close. Neither did Ron.

Once again. If you guys feel a need to beat him up for playing poorly, fine. But the ump blew the call. We live to fight another day, but you guys are shredding him for having the ump call a ball a strike.

Hey now...

They guy has been put out of position for a couple months now… he’s playing the best he can, but is under a great amount of pressure… I was hoping being back at 2nd would calm him down, but it appears as if he’s just a step late at the plate lately.

After not seeing most of the last couple games...

I thought with the rain today I’d get a nice treat to a Cubs game, and also looked forward to the lineup changes… wtf is going on here guys? I’m a little curious why Fuld isn’t in there down 9 runs… and who thinks Sori is back at the top tomorrow? Very sad to see after a couple great days of baseball…
