Hendry

is having a really, really, really bad year. Every decision he’s made has gone to shit.

McGehee
DeRosa
Miles
Gaithright
Freel
Bradley
Marquis
Fox (not calling him up a month ago)
Patton
Heilman
Gregg (he’s the worst closer on any contending team)

I’m sure I’m forgetting some bad moves, but man how do you keep your job after having that much failure with that much money?

So those of you

nitpicking, are you saying that Hendry’s off-season was anything less than horrendous? Because Wood didn’t do well, you couldn’t have predicted that McGehee would play well, and Gregg has been average—is that some kind of endorsement of Hendry? Or are you just quick to argue with anything because we’re all crabby about the game today?

by carmen_fanzone on Jul 4, 2009 2:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I think

The only really bad decision appears to be signing Miles and Gathright. I don’t really think Freel got a chance. Marquis was a salary dump, and let’s see how he does in the second half before we decide giving him up was a bad idea.

It’s too soon to write the book on Bradley, Patton, Heilman and Gregg. Heilman has had some good outings lately, and we already talked about Gregg. Every bullpen has a guy like Patton.

uh-huh

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. [ibid] This is the kind of fan I am.

by drewishdrewid on Jul 4, 2009 3:43 PM CDT up reply actions

One reason

Drew has an irrational view of what kind of player Soriano is. He refuses to acknowledge that he is in decline, perhaps severe decline, and has wild and blind hopes that he rights his season. He would rather have Soriano’s replacement fail than have him succeed, hence his negative views on Sam Fuld. He claims he’s the ultimate Cub fan yet he’s really more concerned with who is steering the ship, in this case Soriano, than whether that captain reaches the correct port, in this case, the Cubs winning. Pretty simple.

Who needs a stinkin' tag line? What are they for anyway?

by krummy12 on Jul 4, 2009 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah, right

Check out my play by play from yesterday. I was cheering for Fuld all the way.

I’m not the one who only shows up in game threads when we’re losing, and slams the players.

Your unseen “resume” may be wonderous, but you sure don’t understand being a fan, and you sure don’t have any insight into me.

I like Sam Fuld just fine for what he is — a replacement player. He’s exceeding expectations. That’s great. But Fuld can’t carry us to the playoffs. If Soriano can get going, he can.

You win 50, and you lose 50

it's an old baseball saying.

every team wins 50 games.
every team loses 50 games.

It’s what you do with the other 62 that matter.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. [ibid] This is the kind of fan I am.

Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug...

Guess which we were today.

Still only counts as 1.

Get ’em tomorrow!
