I was just reading a comment thread for a Tribune article about Jason Marquis
And I don’t understand why people keep saying that it was a mistake to dump him. We don’t need him – Ted would have 10 wins if he’d get some run support. Our starting pitching has been fine.
by Pre on Jul 5, 2009 2:19 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Yea for real
starting pitching should be the least of our worries right now.

Back to what we were talking about...
I really think Brenly is sitting around for the Cubs opening. Especially with his son in the system.

at least more than he would on the bench again.

I think it was
on Father’s Day they did a special on the pregame show about Bob and Michael. Bob said it means everything to him to be able to see Michael play. He said family comes first with him.
by sue369 on Jul 5, 2009 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Of course he's going to say that...
I don’t think he’d pass on the paycheck and a great job leading the organization his son plays in to see his son play a handful of games.

Neither of us know
what he would do. His son could get traded next year and if Bob doesn’t do a good job managing he could get fired. He’s pretty safe where he is.

He's said he wants to manage.
I don’t think he needs to worry about being financially safe. He can get a job in baseball anywhere if he gets canned.

Still I would say Bob has still been reasonably objective. He’s been far more professional than those two.

He should be able to say something nice about the opposing team every once in awhile. All he does is keep quiet when the other team does well, which makes him biased and quite possibly the worst commentator baseball has.

… “drewishdrewid” doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Hawk heaps praise on teams, such as the Twins. In fact, I think it’s exactly opposite to what “drewishdrewid” claims.
If Hawk is so negative about other teams I’d like to hear some examples. For every negative remark about a team I’d be able to post 2X as many positive comments.
You know who Hawk heaps praise on? Lou Piniella. Hawk absolutely loves him. Hawk loved Lou when he was in Seattle, Tampa and his love for him continues as he wears that near bursting Cubbie uniform.

I would have
recognized that he was hustling. Both of those probably should have been caught anyway. But when he plays it safe, you complain and when he doesn’t play it safe, you complain.

So that gives him a pass cause those hits shoud’ve been caught? All I’m saying he needs to be more “in tune” with the game.

No, the results today are fine, but he's not doing fine..
He’s had three soft pop-ups. Two happened to sneak in for hits because they were misplayed by the OF. That’s good fortune, not doing fine.
Semantics I guess, but still he’s not looking fine right now.

How in the world was Jeter the top vote getter in the AL? He’s not even the best SS in the AL anymore let alone the best player. Just goes to show you how big of a popularity contest the voting really is…
