but unforutnately I agree that Lou will change his mind and keep 12 pitchers, send Fuld back down for now.

But it doesn't mean he's having good at-bats

I’d feel better if he was 0 for 4 with 4 lineouts.
This has been a solid team performance today, but Soriano has contributed little.

by ElHijoDelRonSanto on Jul 5, 2009 3:58 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The outcome was good, the process is not...

and until we start seeing the process improve (i.e., making more solid contact and actually driving the ball), it’s hard to get excited.

by SouthernCub on Jul 5, 2009 3:59 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

to clarify - it's hard to get excited about Soriano's performance...

not the team’s performance, which has been excellent today.

by SouthernCub on Jul 5, 2009 3:59 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

he's been hitting dribbling

grounders and striking out for weeks. Pop-ups that get out of the infield is an improvement. It’ll happen.

by drewishdrewid on Jul 5, 2009 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's not really an improvement...

I admire your optimism, but nothing he’s done today is reason to get excited in my opinion.

Now, if he starts squaring up doubles and hard singles again, I’ll get excited.

by SouthernCub on Jul 5, 2009 4:01 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

For comparison...

Fukudome is also 2-4, but he’s drilled the ball hard nearly every at-bat today. That’s reason for optimism, despite his terrible June (which was actually as bad or worse than Soriano’s June).

Hopefully Soriano starts driving the ball again. But celebrating a day which should have been an 0-4 with 4 shallow popouts is reaching, in my opinion.
