both will have minimal roles once the veterans return anyway.

Soriano is clearly pretty hurt
can’t run anymore and even when he gets good wood on the ball it is not going anywhere. Just not a lot of torque on the swing. I think he is basically swinging all arms, no legs
He's always relied heavily on his hands...
but it seems that he’s even more reliant right now. He just hasn’t been driving the ball well for a long time now.

The outcome was good, the process is not...
and until we start seeing the process improve (i.e., making more solid contact and actually driving the ball), it’s hard to get excited.
to clarify - it's hard to get excited about Soriano's performance...
not the team’s performance, which has been excellent today.

That's not really an improvement...
I admire your optimism, but nothing he’s done today is reason to get excited in my opinion.
Now, if he starts squaring up doubles and hard singles again, I’ll get excited.
For comparison...
Fukudome is also 2-4, but he’s drilled the ball hard nearly every at-bat today. That’s reason for optimism, despite his terrible June (which was actually as bad or worse than Soriano’s June).
Hopefully Soriano starts driving the ball again. But celebrating a day which should have been an 0-4 with 4 shallow popouts is reaching, in my opinion.

Next time we play Yankees in interleague at Wrigley (prob. in 2 years) the bleachers there should do the same thing to our players. In a not really mocking but fun dig at Yankees.

Marquis is leading NL with 10 wins. He was never bad. But don’t forget with Lilly, Zambrano and Dempster pitching even if he had an All Star year on the Cubs he wouldn’t have been voted in.
