(UPDATED TO RELFECT 3 GAME SERIES) Best outcome of Cards/Brewers series
UPDATED TO REFLECT THREE GAME SERIES INSTEAD OF FOUR
This is an interesting stretch of games for the Central Division. This weekend, the Cards played the Reds (the Crads took 2 of 3) and the Cubs played the Brewers (Cubs winning 3 of 4). As it stands right now, the Cardinals are in first, the Brewers are 1 game back, the Cubs 2.5, and the Reds 3 (also, don't forget about Houston who is lurking). This week, the Brewers play what should be an interetsing series against...guess who...the Cardinals. So, what is the best outcome for the series? Keep in mind that the Cubs play the Cardinals next weekend for 4 games, so they can add to or offset whatever happens this week. Still, it would be interesting to hear people's thoughts.
Of course, all that REALLY matters is that the Cubs take care of bussiness versus the Braves!

A split.
When you are chasing two teams, your best bet is to have them beat each other.

Split
Then we try to Sweep Braves and be 1 game out of first I think.
None of this matters if the CUBS don't keep winning.
It’s WAY WAY WAY too early to care this much about what the rest of our division is doing. We just need to keep winning series.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

I'm with SWL - a sweep of the Braves
But I’ll admit, I’m overly optimistic and greely – I’m not worried about STL and MIL – I want to catch the Dodgers.

how can you split a 3 game series?

Perhaps the post should be redone to reflect the 3-game series.
Just a thought.

reality has no place here
join the anarchy. next up… the 5 game cubs braves series.
I'm skipping that one to see the 2 game Cincinnati/Marlins/Cubs series.

I've always wanted to see Hanley Ramirez play SS for the Cubs

well why don't we also get Alexi Ramirez from the White Sux to
and move him to 2B and then we can have DLee at first and Ramirezes everywhere else!
…sure

I have a theory...
…that every pro ballplayer with the last name “Ramirez” can be identified by his first name. Seriously: Manny, Hanley, Alexei, Aramis. Who am I missing?
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
Wilkin, Edwar and Ramon.
Whoops. There are TWO Ramon’s:

Hm, I figured there'd be some exceptions.
And I’d give just about anything to see those two Ramon Ramirez’s end up on the same team. Endless lineup card fun!

It's spelled business...
And what these two teams do while the Cubs aren’t playing them is none of mine.
The correct answer
is that it really doesn’t matter what they do against each other. As long as the Cubs win, they’ll gain ground on one of them.
If the Cubs can go 5-2 over these 7 games, there is a better than even chance that they’ll go into the break in 1st place.
Doesn't matter
One could argue a sweep of either team is just as good as a split – it leaves the Cubs chasing only the one team if they take care of their own business. What matters is that the Cubs keep hitting, keep pitching, and keep winning!
I think the Cards are probably better than the Brewers right now
But the Cubs play the Cards next and don’t see the Brewers until September . . .
As long as neither team sweeps, I think.

my take on the best outcome
the best outcome would be for the ‘weaker’ team to sweep—thus putting the ‘stronger’ team farther back.
with the brewers and cardinals off tonight, i think,
tonight would certainly be a nice win. creep up on that win column.
"If you play more than two chords, you're showing off."--Woody Guthrie
I think I've got it.
(DEEP BREATH)I want each team to win a game and then have the third game suspended by rain in the fourth to be made up at a later date when we have a better of idea of which team we’d prefer to seem lose OR when it doesn’t matter because the Cubs will be comfortably leading the division. (EXHALE)

It's in Milwaukee, though
I know the roof leaks, but not that much. Maybe a power outage?

Damn! I knew that idea was too good to be true.
Yeah, power outage! Or maybe that swarm of bees out in San Diego decided to go roadtripping to the Midwest!

Best possible outcome
First game Brewers win 18 to 17 in the 20th inning.
Next game Cards win 21 to 20 in the 20th inning.
Last game Brewers win 19 to 16 in the 20th inning.

By then, Ryan Braun will be pitching.
I mean, he already hates his own pitching staff, so why not?

three rain outs?
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
See above.
They’re playing in Milwaukee – domed stadium and all. I made the same mistake.

they could have
three hurricane-outs. Like Houston did, and had to play in Milwaukee.
