Randy Wells for ROY
Just one season after the Chicago Cubs saw catcher Geovany Soto capture top rookie honors, they may have another winner on their hands.
One of these young players quickly establishing himself is Cubs' starting pitcher Randy Wells.

Hmm.
While I’d like to see him win, July 7 is a little early to talk about end of season awards, especially considering his first appearance was May 8.
Let’s see how he’s doing in mid to late August.

Bleacher Report has a "Senior Writer"?
What is he, a senior in high school?

I just post the links, man... :D
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. [ibid] This is the kind of fan I am.

One of their writers stole several of my posts and posted them as his own.
I’m not the only person this has happened to.

Really? I'm not familiar with that story - that's not cool.
When did that happen?

Wow, I wasn't aware of this either.
I’m not really surprised – I find their stuff really amateurish.
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

It was sometime over the winter.
I contacted one of their senior editors and they took care of it.

Whoops! Two more words:
Not eligible. In that case, yes, I guess Wells is right up there.

So is Casey McGehee . . . .

The only real competition I see for Wells...
… based on numbers RIGHT NOW (could change, of course) is Colby Rasmus.

how do you choose rookie of the year...
i think the issue lies here. the writers association generally votes for a player who has established himself as a prime prospect and future star rather then directly by the numbers…

Tommy Hanson should probably be in the discussion
Small sample size there too though.

How, based on numbers right now, is
McGeHee any less of a candidate than Wells?
I don’t think he’s likely to win, but therein lies my point. It’s too early.

Kung Fu Panda!
Gotta admit – I really like that guy.

Have you seen the crazy ritual he does before getting in the batter's box?
It’s like this 10-step dance with the bat. Hilarious.

who else?
Wells needs a couple more starts, then we will be able to see him eligible for the league leaders list….when discussing rookie of the year and Wells my question becomes who else?

You know, for having such a "bad" farm system, the Cubs rooks are
doing more than just about anyone’s. I don’t understand how some poeple have to complain about us “not playing our young guys” when, despite the status of the veterans on this team, several have already been up and the ones with us now are being consistently put in the lineup and contributing.

True...
But I think we need to see a bit more over time before saying that the young guys that have come up can be consistent contributors. But so far… it looks good.

I would absolutely love to see Wells win the award.
But I think its foolish to overlook Colby Rasmus. As much as it pains me I think he will win the award as he appears to be getting better as the season has gone along.

well rasmus has been on a tear this past week….will Wells spot in the rotation come up next weekend with the Cards…I believe it will…could be fun to watch them go against eachother

5 more starts
And you can have some serious discussions.
He missed the Brewers series which would have been a big win for him. Let’s see how he handles the Cardinals and after the ASG the Phillies. That’s a much better test.

Well he out-pitched the Braves tonight
And that’s one of the top pitchers in the NL.
If he can control the Cardinals and mostly Pujols, he might be onto something.
