Can't believe

the Cubs have 1 run in 7 innings against a guy with a 5.00 era…AT COORS FIELD.

The depths of suckitude no no bounds.

Tulowitski triples. Is that the cycle?

I have nothing funny or creative to write.

by Wreckard on Aug 10, 2009 9:55 PM CDT reply actions

the ball was way in the dirt and Soriano did a bad job of getting it in.

He’s a born DH and we don’t really have a position for him anyway.

a good left fielder would have gotten that ball in a lot sooner...

a good shortstop would have relayed that ball better…and yes a good third basemen would have scooped that ball up. But it’s kinda of crappy to put it all on one player when it was a team effort.

That loss column coushin is long gone

The best defense is a good offense.....Lou Pinella...still hasn't managed the Cubs to a post season win. D. Lee still doesn't have a post seasson RBI for Cubs...ditto for Soriano

I think Lou should go back putting Dome at leadoff...

He sets the tone of our lineup with his patience at the plate. Our lineup is swinging at way too many balls and not making good contact.

Agreed.

I fail to see why he took ‘im out, unless he’s trying to capitalize on his hot hitting for RBIs. Nobody else seems to be clutch.

I'll do a well thought fan post....

Hendry….

1.) Shed salary to sign a 26 RBI RF who puts up stats like … well….I’m trying to be civil about this…
2.) Let’s a legit starting pitcher go for nothing (see above)..OK he can’t 2nd 1/2 pitch….well…lets reserve judgement…
3.) Traded a versitile CLUTCH hitter who’s about to be on his 3rd straight NL Central divison winning team….
4)…..Wood may not have it in Cleveland…but I still say Gregg was a downgrade at closer…

I’m sick of the excuses and the small mkt. BS….THE CUBS should be the premiere NL franchise…PERIOD….

Sorry letting go of Wood and getting Gregg

Was the best off season move. If we had gotten a half way useful body for Marquis it might have been worth it however as it has been pointed out but for not having Marquis Wells would not have gotten a shot at the rotation. The DeRosa trade is the most maddening
but Stevens and Gaub may make us forget that but not this year.

OK...but how much better...

are Wells #’s vs. Marquis? Also…with the staff falling apart b4 our very eyes…I think Wells would have had plenty of starts…..see Hart, Marshall (BTW I like and have pushed for Marshall), Gorzeleny, et. al.

Gregg… SUCKS…period….living is SFLA…I saw him blow a bunch for the Marlins last year….

Again….1…you get to the playoffs with a good offense (or outstanding bullpen)….you win with an ace and a closer. Cubs have none of the above this year

South Florida does not agree with Gregg

but he has been pretty good and Much, much better than Wood. Wells saved our ass in May and June and at best he would have made it up in July but even that is no certainty. I always liked Marquis unlike a lot of folks here but we did not trade Cy Young
and sign Mendoza .

No...but we traded 175 innings...

an ERA under 4.5 and a 12-7 record for nothing…

In the name of signing not much better than Mendoza (though he’s the only player on the team taking walks)

Traded a versitile good hitter for a lefty/SH who is WORSE than mendoza….what..to save a couple million……

OK, it's only three games

When are we allowed to seriously panic though? Five games? Eight games?

And yes, I get the concept of mathematically eliminated. But in the real world, 10 games out with 12 to play is not a realistic shot.

So, at what point, you Optimistic Ollies, is an “Oh, crap” response acceptable?

Yes this series was bad, but after the three gamer against the Phillies

22 of our next 27 games are against some of the worst teams in the National League. We’re going to have a shot right up until the end of the season I think

You can get really upset if they are 5 out on Sept 1

You can freak out completely if they are 5 out after the Cards series in Mid -Sept or if they are 8 out when it starts.

I admit I am not exactly an optimist but that is less to do with the numbers than the injuries. If they had all the starters and starting pitchers healthy I would feel pretty good as it is I am hopeful because I want to be.
