Vote Early and Often
Sandberg is leading by 5% as of 4;51 Arizona Time in the ESPN poll

Not to be picky but if the poll is the best for the past 20 years
It should be Biggio or Kent. A lot of Sandberg’s best years fall outside the 20 years. Since it is ESPN, I won’t vote anyway.

There was this guy named Alomar who was okay over the last 20.
And lo, when I pull up the link, there he is.
if this was still new to me, i wouldn't understand

You are right
Kent and Biggio just came to mind first but Alomar is probably the best.

I think playing in anytime in that 20 years, gives you the right to include your whole career in voting consideration.
But that’s just how I look at it.

Sandberg just ahead of Alomar
when I voted. Ryno has the Arizona vote so far.

Alomar gets my vote over Sandberg
Sandberg was a truly great player. But Robbie Alomar quite simply should go down as the greatest to ever play 2nd base in the history of the game. He is unmatched defensively, and his offensive game was also exceptional for many years. Is he a douche bag? Yes. But that wasn’t the question.

Go with Alomar, Too
His combination of offense and defense was the best of any 2nd baseman in the last 20 years. Because Ryno had his great 1984 and 1985 seasons before 1989, I can’t consider Ryno to be in this discussion. Biggio played some years at catcher and in the outfield. I never was that impressed with Jeff Kent’s defense. Alomar would be my choice.

Exactly. You can vote Alomar "over the last 20 years"
without worry of slighting the career of Ryno.
if this was still new to me, i wouldn't understand

Kent - Best Offensive 2B Since 1990
Jeff Kent had an OPS+ of 123. That was the best among players since 1990 who have had at least 5020 plate appearances and played at least 75% of their games at second base. Of course, I think Alomar was a better defensive player than Kent. I still give Alomar the nod as a better all-around player.
