IT'S HAPPENING???!!!!??!
(Beat ya, Lex.)
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
i'm hoping our
Iowa-Chicago shuttle is a bit better in 2010 and beyond. the only one that went (well, may i add) above average was wells.
I think Andres Blanco delivered as promised, too.

Scales was better than expected IMO
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
I'd agree.

my mistake
i was assuming that put “pitching shuttle”.
That’s what I generally consider the shuttle, where six guys are being shuttled for the last three spots in the pen. I really hope the back-end pen is better in 2010. Then again, we won’t have to hide Patton in Wrigley.
But yeah, Scales, Blanco, and Fox have answered the call with quality.
I'm actually hoping Shark's bus
Doesn’t stop until he hits West Tennessee.

confirmed---Cubs Press Release
The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Justin Berg from Triple-A Iowa. To make room for Berg on the roster, the Cubs optioned right-handed pitcher Jeff Samardzija to Triple-A.
it's time for shark
to simply focus on being a pen arm. I think, with work, he could perhaps be a decent end of the rotation arm, but I think he has good potential to be a potential setup level arm if he focuses on that.
pen arm
agreed. at best Samardzja is a bull pen guy. with one pitch – a fastball with no movement – he has no future as a starter. i frankly do think he is a major league pitcher but with 2 years left on that ridiculous deal you might as well see if he can contribue.
Hendry really whiffed on that mullet sporting hack

Is Jeff Samardzija a wasted contract?
The reason being is he’s currently on year 3 of a 5 year deal. He was effective last year in the bullpen in 2008 but the team was going to win the division without him.
This means he has 2 year left to make an impact on this team. I really don’t think he’s going to start in the beginning of 2010. That means we’re paying him 10 Million to potentially be groomed for the bigs to play for another team.
Then again, if he has an effective 2011 where he pitches like a #2, then was the 5 year deal worth it?
I don't think you can call it a wasted contract this early
Remember he is very young and had little time in the minors. He has good stuff he just has to learn a bit more of the game at a professional level. There is a big difference between pitching in college and pitching in the bigs and he hasn’t been able to make that adjustment in AA or AAA because he was thrusted onto this years team.
Only reason I'm asking if its a wate
Is that we have him for only 5 years. It’s not like we can keep him in the minors, let him get arbitration, etc.
No, that's not right.
He still has to have 5 years of MLB service to be a free agent.

Really?
I always thought he was signed for 5 year/10 million regardless of what he did.
Well had I been correct on the contract structure you can see why I was pondering that?
can we trade
Shark to the Bears for cash considerations?

Yeah, but free agency is based on service time, not length of first contract

Hey Maybe Berg can actually throw a pitch THIS time.
He never got in a game for his cup of coffee last time.

Me either Jim
Had no business being in Chicago..
Clearly he needs to learn how to pitch. He needs a second pitch at the minimum.
My problem is that even my untrained eye can see this, why do the Cubs do things like this?!?!
The journey is the reward!
they have 10 million reasons to not see it
