OT -- Favre about to sign with Vikings

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AgGKgcB9hiQ9lEmREdXAQCM5nYcB?slug=jc-favrevikescontract081809&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

I know there are both Packers fans and Bears fans on this board. (I'm a Packers fan)

I would hope there is one thing that can unite us both in these troubled times -- We want this clown to fail.

So, I reach my hand out to Bears fans. I will cheer for you when you play the Vikings, if you do the same for us. I will wear Bears gear. I will dress up my newborn in Bears gear. I will proclaim Buddy Ryan as My Lord and Saviour.

As for Favre, he is close to being dead to me. I'm sure, years from now, he'll be dragged back to Lambeau for the Ring of Honor ceremony. We're not terribly far away from a 20-year celebration of Super Bowl XXXI.

I don't care. He has spat on the grave of Vince Lombardi.

May his consecutive games streak end very quickly.

As much as I despise Favre for this now 2-year circus

my hatred for 2009 is going to be directed towards Michael Vick. The NFL has quickly become a disgrace.

NFL being a disgrace is nothing new

just ask the Cowboys of the 90’s, Ray Lewis, Briggs or Dexter Manley for a few examples.

baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

What about Pacman Jones

Thats also a disgrace. I love football, grew up near GB. But I long ago gave up the idea that NFL cares about what players do.

As for Vikings, I’ve always hated them. I don’t have much ill will towards the Bears, so I cheer for them regardless against the evil Vikings.

Wait a second

In a league full or murders, drug dealers, and other scum of the earth, we are worried about Vick being in the league?

Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

but lets be careful

That before we open up that can of worms. I tend to agree w/ you nij. But I’ve kept my opinion to myself as I know that is not a PC opinion right about now.

I agree 100% worf

I adopted a rescue dog, Jack, and looking at him I don’t understand how a human could do such things to a living thing. The man is despicable, so yes I’m outraged that he’s in the league. Just because it’s a dog and not a human doesn’t give him a free pass and make him an upstanding citizen who was given a bad rap. ridiculous.

It is the same dynamic as child abuse

A child or a pet will love you unconditionally and needs you to love it back and protect it from harm.

To willfully deny those needs and to inflict punishment for business or sadistic reasons is evil.

by Worf on Aug 18, 2009 11:11 AM CDT up reply actions

I am 100% against what Vick did, do not misunderstand

but what about Zambrano and cock fighting (for example) which is popular in Venezuela and would nto surprise me if he went to a fight, or even had a cock in it.

I hate what Vick did with everything I have, I own three dogs, and it makes me nuts to think of what he did, but I believe cock fighting is no better, and there are others I am sure.

by Cubbie-Tim on Aug 18, 2009 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

It's a fair point

But if all Vick did was attend and maybe finance a dog, he wouldn’t have been in jail for two years.

He didn’t just write his boys a check for $100,000 and say, “Go run one”

His hands strangled dogs.

Sorry Worf

as much as I admire your willingness to root for the Bears when they play the Vikings, I simply can not in any way shape or form root for any other NFC North team besides the Bears.

As for Favre failing, he is going to fail because he will not lead them to a Super Bowl victory, and anything short should be considered a failure.

I will say this, when and if Favre plays against GB, it should make for some damn interesting games, with him trying to stick it to them and them wanting to show he’s a fool for trying to do so.

Maybe the Bears can bring ol’ #46 out of retirement to give him a nice shot during the game up in that silly domed dump.

Only the last year was bad

Unlike Favre Maddux did not have to be a star and carry the team. In the later years he was content to be a decent pitcher with flashes of his greatness. He could be effective and was always healthy and loved playing the game. In boxing and perhaps as a QB you should retire on top but as a starting pitcher Maddux could play as long as he was good and he enjoyed it. Of course he NEVER
made a soap opera out of retiring and made sure to make no public announcement until it was over even though he knew before the start of 08 it would be his final year.

I don't post on the board to rile people up

If anything that sounds insulting to the people on this board. All I’ve ever done is conversed, rec’d a fair number of posts and sometimes pointed out facts. If you think its a bad thing to post the url to a video of your RF bumping caps with a ref or making the statement that maybe Sori isn’t one of the top LFs in the game, that’s not really a fault of mine.

I find the “scurrying” thing amusing. How many times can something be repeated, especially when it is a simple fact like bumping caps? I engaged a number of times on the Sori as a fabulous defender thread, but pretty much everyone had their opinions and Drew or Tim weren’t convinced by what I said, so I don’t really see a point in escalating or repeating things ad infinitum.

And making up a thing about Illinois and Wisconsin seems rather flaccid.

by ol Pete on Aug 19, 2009 11:26 AM CDT up reply actions

I wasn't referring to Drew and Tim

I always agreed on Soriano, and have found Drew’s stubborn claims to be, well . . . I didn’t agree with them.

And Bradley was in the wrong. I don’t care how bad the call was. That’s no excuse for touching the umpire. Same for Zambrano or anyone else.

A disgrace

I’ve grown up watching the Pack every Sunday and even making it to Lambeau for several games to watch them. When Favre was with the Pack, he was favorite player hands down. He’s only tarnishing his name and image now. He would be happy with the Vikes going 2-14, if the 2 wins are against GB. I’m sorry he didn’t get the memo that he announced his retirement and the team was ready to move on to someone younger. With that said I hope to see the Pack Lambeau leap on Favre’s face not once, but twice.

Of all the things...

Brett Favre is guilty of, “tarnishing his name and image” is not something I would ever indict someone on.

I have no probelms with athletes holding on too long. Yeah, it would have been a storybook ending for MJ to end his career beating Utah for the championship. He wanted and missed the competition and came back at far-from-prime MJ for Washington. Do I look upon him any less? Not a chance in hell.

If I were a professional athlete, I too would have held on as long as possible. The image of Favre (for me, at least) does not change in the slightest because he unretired twice or because he played for the hated Vikings. If he wants to do it and a team is willing, then that’s his choice to continue playing. I respect any athlete’s desire to keep doing it. Mays did it. Jerry Rice did it. MJ did it. It doesn’t change their image for any reasonable fan. In this particular case, Favre’s image will change because he kneejerked a few teams and fans around as well as saying a few cryptic and vengeful quotes. Not because the guy wanted to keep playing.

Well said

He kept the Packers’ plans hostage for years with his, “maybe I will, maybe I won’t” routine.

Face it

He couldn’t handle being put number 2 behind Rogers. It was crucial for this team to “move on with their lives” and put the Favre drama behind them. He is playing for the wrong reasons and if you can’t realize that you should reread the entire saga of what happened after the 07’ NFC Championship game on his part.

He was number 2 the day that Rodgers was drafted

The drama belongs to Teddy and his Ari Fleischer manipulated disinformation and slime campaign. When I reread the saga will it be the one authored by Teddy?

Gah. So much Wisconsin-on-Illinois hate in here!

Why can’t everyone just get along? Personally, I love Wisconsin. It’s my favorite Chicago suburb.

There's really not that much

While your joke was funny, if you read the comments, a good number of the posters are Packer backers.

Just another example of a pampered, prima donna athlete letting...

…letting his completely out of whack ego get the best of him.
I swear that when I read about things like this it gets me so disgusted that I almost feel like not following sports any more.
I’ll stick around though if for no other reason than to root for favre to get the crap kicked out of him on a weekly basis and further tarnish his rapidly dimming “legend”.
