Dice-K anyone?
Not really surprising that the Sox would be tempted to shop him given all the pitching they already have, one could reasonably expect Daisuke to perform better in the NL, and as the link states, the Sox take good care of their pitchers and have already paid the largest portion of his deal, the posting fee.

When you post links like this...
… please post the ORIGINAL link, not the MLBTR link. In this case it links back to this Boston Globe article, which says:
Look for the Red Sox to listen to teams inquiring about Daisuke Matsuzaka in the offseason. Although there’s been an attempt to straighten things out after the recent clash of cultures and workout routines, the hope is the righthander can return to the team, pitch well, and maintain his trade value. Matsuzaka will have to sign off on any deal, but given the many bumps in the road he and the Sox have had, that may not be a problem.
Note the words, “in the offseason”. So, basically, nothing to see. Yet.

Ok
the original link was in the mlbtr link, so I thought people could follow that if inclined.
In any even, he’s shown he can succeed somewhat in the AL, certainly he can rack up some Ks, so I think he could improve upon those numbers in the NL

No way
The Cubs are set on pitching with their recent trade, plus Matsuzaka he is being overpaid, and he’s signed through 2012. If there’s gonna be another deal, it’ll be for a bat. No thanks.

Set on pitching?
In what way?
How many times has Z been hurt this year? Lillys deal is almost up, Harden needs at least 25 pitches to get through a single inning and Dempster hasnt come close to last years performance. So Id were anything but set with pitching

We have several people
Set to start or relieve in AAA. Plus we just added Grabow and Gorzy. Dice-K is also being paid about 7 million. No thanks.

going forward
2010, Z/Demp/Lilly/Wells are in place, for better or worse. I have a hard time seeing Harden come back. It’s possible, but I’m not expecting it. I think Marshall/Gorzelanny will be pondered, particularly if Lou is around as he might want that 2nd lefty. It’s unlikely that Cashner/Jackson/Carpenter might be ready to start 2010. Midseason? Perhaps, although I’d bet against it (now calling them up for pen roles midway through 2010 is possible, depending on development). My hunch is that we may try to sign a cheap, innings eating vet to compete with Marshall/Gorzelanny/Atkins/Caridad.
2011, Z/Demp/Wells are in place tentatively. Obviously, we have to see how Wells pitches. I’ve got a hard time seeing us give a deal to Lilly unless it’s short term. If he’s pitching alright, he’s likely to get a long term deal. I think the early hope for 2011 is that one of our top 3 arms (the above mentioned 3) are ready, and that we’ll find a lefty to go in there (could be Marshall/Gorzelanny).

Matsuzaka is a .500 pitcher.

Every start with him is a high wire act and good luck getting more than 6 innings.

Looks like I am in the minority
But if he could be had for cheap (prospects wise), I don’t see any problem in trying to get him this off season. In 2008 he was quite good, but this year it seems he has been hampered by injuries. He seems to struggle with command but when he does get it over the plate, he is unhittable (6.9 h/9 last year). As you stated, the majority of the big dollar associated with Dice-K was the posting fee.
Plus, it would give Dome a Japanese partner on the club, which could be a good thing for both players.

but this year when he finds the plate, theyre bombs
He can throw a fastball at 87MPH and make you look like a fool. He can spray lines drives to right field. He can put up with crappy offense and take the loss. He is Randy Wells. He is the most interesting pitcher in the world. Stay healthy, my friends.

I'd definitely look into it.
Especially if they took a contract for him instead of prospects. If they’d swap Daisuke for Bradley, for instance…
Randy Wells - You continue to astound me.

Love this idea!
But could you imagine MB would be like in Boston? Something tells me he would blow-up on the field. I don’t mean emotionally. I mean literally explode into pieces after a called strike three during a slump.

Would the Cubs let him do his own throwing program?
Dragonsfanatic would obviously be the more knowledgeable person on this, but I think Dice-K said that the reason he has struggled is the Red Sox unwillingness to let him use his throwing program.
Perhaps allowing him to do his own thing will help him be more successful.
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

yeah
basically, he wants to be throwing more to build up arm strength. Red Sox initially let him do that, but after his last injury, they wanted to lessen the work, and that led to the brouhaha.
