"David Patton, pitching for Double-A Tennessee, had to leave his outing Saturday after three innings when he aggravated a groin injury. Patton, on the DL since July 6, had given up one run on two hits and struck out four over three innings. He apparently re-injured himself warming up for the fourth inning, and was pulled. Tennessee won, 4-1, over Carolina.

Left-handed reliever B.J. Ryan, whom the Cubs signed to a Minor League deal, struck out two in one inning for Triple-A Iowa in a 14-0 win over New Orleans.

Well it appears that this groin will entrench Patton's status with the Cub organization until further notice. How long do you think it will be until Ryan joins the MLB club and gives Lou, not one, not two but three lefties out of the pen?

Uh, huh...sure he did....lol

Glad to have David Patton officially as a Cub. Another season at Iowa next year will be good for him, good for us.

I do think the kid has potential.

I'm guessing the plan is to DL him through August.

And then luckily he comes back on September 1, when coincidentally the rosters expand.

He's got a good curveball

but this year of not pitching isn’t going to help him develop…

This isn't a bad thing...

At least we don’t have to worry about Patton coming back up and wasting a roster spot.

How long...

can he keep “re-injuring” himself? Does the time on the DL count? I can’t believe the Cubs might just float him on the DL the entire year.

I gather this groin injury will be serious and cause him to do another 15 day DL stint?

Minor league DL stints are only 7 days

But Patton was on ‘rehab’. Since he ‘injured’ himself ‘again’, he can resume his rehab stint when ’healthy. Or just ride the bench in September in Wrigley.

hendry was in attendance

the cynic in me says he was instructed to ‘have issues’ warming up in the fourth. rehab starts often don’t go four innings, and i don’t know when the last time patton pitched four complete in a game.

anyway, good luck getting better.

I am shocked , shocked at the suggestion

the Cubs are manipulating the DL list, rule 5 and roster placement. WAY TO GO JIM.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
