Cubs/Pirates Makeup Game Scheduled For September 30

From the press release:
The Chicago Cubs today announced Wednesday, September 30, as the make-up date for their August 16 postponement against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game will start at 1:05 p.m.

All tickets for the postponed game from August 16 will be honored at the gates on September 30 at 1:05 p.m. There is no need for fans to exchange tickets.

The 1:05 p.m. make-up game is now part of a day-night, separate admission doubleheader. The regularly scheduled game will follow at 7:05 p.m.

Gates will open at 10:35 a.m. for the 1:05 p.m. game and at 6:05 p.m. for the 7:05 p.m. contest.

Fans unable to attend the September 30 make-up game may request a refund by sending their tickets to the Wrigley Field Ticket Office at 1060 W. Addison St., Chicago, IL 60613 or by visiting the Wrigley Field ticket windows during business hours. All refunds must be requested before September 4.
UPDATE: Have been informed by the Cubs that the gates will open at 11:35, not 10:35, for the day game.

The almighty dollar reins ...

… for a day-night DH on September 30. Sigh. Unless this game really matters in the postseason plans of the Cubs, I would expect this makeup, weekday game to be significantly short of fans…

Oh, for the days of an actual day or twi-night DH…

The rained out game was probably over 90%

sold – and a night game – even at the end of the year – is probably at least 70% sold by now – so unless 25,000 tickets were turned in by this point I don’t see how they could schedule a true doubleheader

Of course they could schedule a true DH.

There have been so few of them (the last one at Wrigley was in August 2006) that maybe you’ve forgotten that when a team does that, those who hold tickets to the original date simply get a bonus game.

Of course they don’t want to do that and don’t want to lose the $ from the original date, that’s why they schedule a split DH.

and have a 163 game schedule?

unless you are talking about scheduling a true doubleheader in the original schedule I don’t get how they could make up the August 16th game as part of a doubleheader involving a game that has been on sale for six months – to many tickets have been sold by now

Let me repeat this.

If you make up the game as a regular DH, you still have 162 games. All you are doing is giving the people who have bought tickets for the 9/30 game a bonus game. That’s how DH used to work.

If they did that, they would simply refund all the tickets from 8/16.

Like I said, there have been so few regular DH in the last few years at Wrigley that maybe you’ve forgotten how it works when a team plays a makeup DH.

gotcha

but i think many of 8/16 game people would have a problem with that – and it reminded me of the pittsburgh dh at the end of 2003 season which was done that way – with the result that my ticket for the rainout the day before had to be returned for cubs bucks – the amount didn’t come close to what was spent on food and beer while waiting for the friday game to be called.

The 2003 situation was unique, since...

… there were only two days left in the season. There wasn’t any other way.

The 8/16 people wouldn’t have a “problem” with that — they’d get their money back.

Not sure why you got Cubs dollars for your 2003 ticket. The Cubs have a list of all rained out games going back to 1989. If you present a ticket for any of those games, you will get a refund, or the dollar value applied to another ticket.

Perfect timing

to eek in one more win to secure the division. Once again the baseball gods are looking out over the Cubbies.

I just pray with all my heart the DH means something for the Cubs then.

I think that few would care at that point whether it was a day/night, makeup or flubber DH.
