I will front $300; let's release Miles
The title says it all. I will front three hundo. If every cubs fan will contribute 1$ or 5$ we can pay his salary so he never bats again. HE IS FUCKING TERRIBLE!!!!!! End of discussion. I will be setting up an account soon so we can hopefully contribute to getting rid of Miles. I also want Lou gone after he made the decision to remove the pitcher that was pitching well for the worst player in baseball... its over... This team is more frustrating than the 06 team.. Lets pay to have Miles removed.

wow, dudes
Miles sucks. We all know it. Better things are on the way in the pipeline. We hung around long enough to get the Redbirds to empty their farm system.
How ’bout this? Donate the cash to a charity. Use your name, or donate it under an alias expressing your frustration. Life is brutal for lotsa people. If you have $300 to waste, give it to an organization you trust, at least more than you trust Aaron Miles to do well.
Someone will appreciate your charity.

I've said before....
….the cubs ought to start an Aaron Miles relief fund, raise ticket prices by $1 (more than they already were) and send this bozo packing. That, over the course of 3 million at the gate over a season, would cover his salary. On the back of every ticket would say “one dollar of your ticket goes to AMR fundation”.
He’s an easy scape goat, I know. But it’d sure make everyone feel a little better.

Thanks for putting a smile on my face
For all you naysayers about a waste of space this is, just ease off. It’s been a rough week for all of us.
And for what it’s worth, my poor unemployed ass is chipping in $10

I was one of those naysayers back in May
However after tonight, I’m on the otherside of this one. It’s not that he didn’t try and work the count. It’s not even that he hit the ball about as hard as a grandma. It’s the fact that this guy, who’s only purpose was that ONE at bat, chose to JOG to first. Of course it’s unlikely a gold glover is going to screw up a 20 foot throw, but if you’re getting paid about $10k for that ONE at bat you RUN.

Aaron Miles is not a good baseball player.
But he went from having his uses under TLR to being useless under Lou. Is it just a coincidence?
Well, Miles has always hit LH pitching better than RH pitching. TLR got Miles plenty of ABs v. LH pitching, 1/3 of his plate appearances last year were v. LH pitching.
But, Lou has rarely used Miles against LH pitching, giving him 4/5 of his ABs v. RHP and only 32 PAs v. LHP.
That said, with Jeff Baker on the club, Miles now has no uses for the Cubs and Jim Hendry might consider giving Cubs fans something to cheer about by releasing him. Aaron Miles is the figurehead of what went wrong in 2009 – from untimely injuries to the unbalancing of a roster by trying to balance the lineup. Miles is a switch-hitter, yes, but unable to backup the left side of the infield, which we desperately needed. He is the very definition of “futility infielder.” Because we had no adequate 3B backup, Fontenot got stuck there, playing everyday, which I’m convinced screwed up his hitting.

Very good points
This gets to the heart of the blame debate, at least the portion that is “bad luck v. bad management”
It was bad luck that Aramis Ramirez got hurt. That injury was going to hurt the team.
However, it should not have hurt the club to the extent that it did.
Which is why, if we fall 10 games back, Ramirez has to have surgery, or be rested. He has to be 100 percent for next year, or else we fall right back into the same trap.

Not only does resting Ramirez help him and us for next season
but it gives the Cubs more chances to play Fox, Baker, and Fontenot (only at 2B, only v. RHP) to see what we’ve really got in those players and whether they are answers.
But as far as the heart of the blame debate points – I think people are underestimating the bad luck portion of the blame, but beyond that what’s really being exposed, I believe, is that Jim Hendry and Lou Piniella aren’t working well together. The gaps between what they each see the players on the roster as capable of is a real problem.
And I don’t think it’s a blame one or the other only issue. Lou was right that Aaron Miles shouldn’t play SS or 3B, but Lou’s been very wrong about when to use Miles’ bat. Ideally, the two would have corrected each other where they needed to be corrected. Instead, neither was corrected and we ended up w/o a backup SS/3B and without ever using Miles as Fontenot’s platoon partner.

Excellent summary of the Miles debacle...
…and someone should add “futility infielder” to the BCB dictionary. Rec’d.
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

The profanity was unnecessary.
But I agree with your point. See the front page recap for my thoughts on Miles.

Actually we need to collect a lot more than that
We have to collect the 90 million to get Soriano out. Miles is minor flea that Lou foolishly allows to pinch hit in insane
situations but Sori is the everyday total disaster. Now that he is being intentionally walked I don’t even think Drew can defend him. We probably can’t raise the money to get him but if we kick in just a few million maybe we can get him on the bench for at least THIS year.

It is truly one of the more baffling things in my world at this moment.
Lou is earning doubt in a big way. Many say he is losing it and I would tend to agree. He dropped Scott Eyre when it should have been Bob Howry. He may or may not have had something to do with the DeRosa issue. He took Kosuke out of leadoff when he was killing pitchers and doing EXACTLY what a leadoff man does, and he continues to use Aaron FREAKING Miles. He is an imbecile IMO. I used to argue that there was a method to his madness, now I feel differently. .188!!!!!!! What about that BA tells a manager to remove a pitcher in a crucial spot, and PH a freakin pile of dog poo? I think if anyone has goods on Lou, it’s Miles cause I haven’t seen such idiotic overuse since the likes of Dusty and Jacque Jones!

this would be unprecedented
I believe, in baseball. If every Cubs blog reader/poster donated $5-$25, would enough revenue accrue to buy out Miles’ contract?

Why at this point?
With the Cubs playoff odds dipping below 10% at this point, why not play Miles and see if he can rebuild some value? Let him play out the season, bring him into spring training, and if he still can’t remember how to hit major league pitching then you cut him.
You’re paying him either way.

He's really not likely to be that much better next year, is he?
Why not see if you can deal him for someone else’s bad contract?

Right now, I doubt anyone would take him.
Let him rebuild some value, and maybe you can dump him off as an overpriced utility guy for something else overpriced but of value, a la the Wilson Bettemitt / Nick Swisher trade last year.
If he could regress back to even his pre-2008 numbers someone would want him.

how about they just cut him and keep andy white
by jesus christos on Aug 21, 2009 1:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Again you're not seeing the big picture
You’re paying Miles either way. He’s a bench player who will have very little influence on further slimming the Cubs playoff odds.
If he figures it out and gets hot in September, you may be able to trade him for something this off-season. If not, you cut him at the end of spring training.
If you cut him now, all you’re doing is throwing away any chance of getting even some of your money back.
Any question where “Andres Blanco” is the answer is a bad one.

aaron miles strikes me as the kind of player thats more beneficial to club by not playing for them

Re: that last sentence. How 'bout a question such as:
Who would be a good, young, cost-effective backup middle infielder and late-inning defensive replacement (who can also pinch run and lay down a bunt once in a while)?
Seems like every team could use a glove man like Blanco to serve in those roles.

I am so happy that Miles isn’t a Cardinal anymore.

Put me down for 500
but NOT for Miles. Put a dump Soriano account together. What’s he owed? 90Million? You would think the Cubs might eat a third of that…….we could come up with another third and the new team could pay the other third to deal with that bum. Probably take awhile but there ARE millions of Cub fans……………….

I know you're not serious but, again, how 'bout you raise that money and donate it to a good charity?
