Soriano patterns play after movie character.
Could somone please remind me of the last time Soriano actually made a great defensive or offensive play by actually hustling? He reminds me of the following quote from shortstop Roger Dorn in the movie Major League:
Jake Taylor: What I was concerned with was why you didn't come up with that grounder that Rockert hit in the 9th
Roger Dorn: It was out of my reach, what do you want me to do dive for it?
Jake Taylor: Rog, it could have meant the game!
Roger Dorn: oh come on cut the rah rah shit Taylor! Year after this I go free agent. Plus me and my agent got a couple of plans for life after baseball. So I am not about to risk major injury or displace this property for a collection of stiffs!
Unfortunately, I doubt whether Sori is actually protecting his body for some post career plans. I also suspect that his knees are shot. Watch him run. He runs as if his knees really hurt especially when slowing to approach a base or a ground ball. I think he is really limited in what he can do physically. I understand and appreciate that he was a major reason for the Cubs success over the last 2 seasons. But, the Cubs need to realize that he is no longer the player they signed and mothball him until he starts hitting the ball. Then, let him go on mini hot-hitting streak and see if they can eat most of his salary while unloading him as a DH on an AL team. He is a liability on our roster. It is tough but if he can't perform at the major league level, he shouldn't be playing in the major leagues.

Too bad he hits like ...
Cerrano. I think only Pedro Cerrano makes contact with less breaking balls than Soriano.

I'd like to see Fuld playing a lot for Soriano this year.
During the offseason maybe we can unload Aaron Miles, Heilman, and Soriano for some can’t-miss-hot-prospect, or a basket of tennis balls, whichever works.

I think Fuld is probably a better hitter.
He’s one of those great defensive players who just get the job done like Reed Johnson.

Clearly, we need Wells to sleep with Soriano's wife

Sori's girlfriend would love that.

Oh, if only that were true…

That reference
Doesn’t really match with Soriano. If Soriano is hurt, that’s why it seems like he’s not playing hard..
There’s a difference between not playing hard because your hurt or just being lazy. Sori prob does both, but you never really know which it is.
Dorn was just being a douche.

Ricketts better find a way to get rid of him...
Or have a sit-down and tell him he’s gonna make his live a living bootcamp, to earn that money he’s gettin paid. Ditto for Bradley.
I want these guys to become workout warriors in the offseason… and have significant film study sessions everyday as well. None of this “oley bullshit.”

I don't buy the "Soriano is hurt" line of reasoning...
Were that the case, Lou would pull him more often in late innings for a defensive replacement in games the Cubs are leading. I’ve also seen several games (can’t remember which ones) where Sori represented the tying run at first in the 8th or 9th. There’s no possible way that Lou leaves him in the game there if his knees are bad and he can’t run. None.
Lou might be losing it a little, but he’s not that far gone…
I know that your post isn’t arguing that Sori’s injured, but this line of reasoning seems to be used quite often to explain Sori’s poor year. I think it’s more that he’s always been a player that relied more on pure talent than on hard work. And it’s hard to continue to do that as you get older…
