Enjoy the rest of the season
I know that the Cubs aren't sitting very well with anyone (including me right now). As most people could guess from this FanPost that I am an optimist by nature. And do I still have a slight hope? I do, even though it is dwindling by the second. But that is not what this is about. I know that the last thing some of you want to do right now is watch baseball, but please think forward to the middle of winter when you are yearning for anything baseball related. If at all possible, I think it would be a good idea to atleast try to enjoy the rest of the baseball season. And who knows? The Cubs may pull off a miracle and make it to the postseason. Even if they don't, just take in baseball while you can. It's tough, but I think it would be good for all of us. Keep the faith. Eamus Catuli.

I'll be enjoying the rest of the season
by not watching these posers take the field. Like I said in the post-game thread, if they don’t give a shit, why should I?
College football kicks off next week.
It's rather depressing...
to see so many Cub fans cope with this season’s failures with profanity-laced tirades, personal attacks on players, and personal attacks on each other.
I have read multiple posters here on BCB that have written something along the lines of “I just got laid off” or “I’m still unemployed after x amount of time.” I’ve read a handful of other posters talk about health problems for themselves or family members. And for every one person here who acknowledges his or her job loss, there are probably 3-4 more that choose to keep silent.
I’ll get frustrated with the Cubs. I’ll get frustrated with the players. I’ll get frustrated with management. Hell, I’ll probably get frustrated with certain posters here. But I won’t lose perspective; after all, baseball is still a game.

I've said in past few times I've posted that if the Nats/Mets got us figured out ..
this week, we can probably start seriously thinking about doing other things ..
Well, it’s halfway done, sadly.
But who knows? Maybe a fire will explode in the Cubs – maybe some great and inexplicable connection will set them off and they’ll sweep what’s left of the Mets coming in this weekend … and maybe feel good enough to go on and keep fighting?
It’s 2009. 40 years after. It’s time for a bit of historical revenge to take place. I’d love to see the Cubs bury them.
But if the Cubs couldn’t outlast what just left the friendly confines, I don’t see a whole lot of joy in Wrigleyville this weekend – barring a miracle.
However, if I was in Chicago and had the time and money, I’d be there. Every game. Hollering my brains out.
Blue mountains high .. Blue valleys low
I don't know which way we will go ..
One summer dream .. one summer dream ..

You do have to wonder what
Fox was thinking when they picked this game up for a Saturday afternoon broadcast.
The game was scheduled for Fox before the season started.
Both teams were expected to contend.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
sadly
this time last month we were strong contenders
I'm a lefty, maybe Lou should give me a shot for a position in the bullpen!!
Mets were never stong contenders since ASB
We were though.
I am over it now
i think this series was the final nail in the coffin for me. that being said i am making my annual trip to see the cubs next month and couldnt be more excited. i really wanted to see a playoff contender again this september but it wont change my enthusiasm for the cubs when i am there. things could be a lot worse than sitting in wrigley field watching the cubs and having a cold beer. three more shifts and then three weeks off. OT- i got my U2 tickets in the mail today, anyone else going?
An excellent sentiment.
Like many others, I’ve pretty much let go emotionally at this point. Hey, I’m open to a miracle and, if the Cubs want to make things interesting, I’ll definitely be here to see it happen.
But, sadly, there’s very little chance we’ll see our guys in the postseason this year. So, yeah, just kick back and enjoy the games for what they are. The wins may have very little wider meaning from here on out, but each one is its own self-contained moment of joy. And with new ownership coming in, we’ll have some interesting organizational developments to keep an eye on.

A refreshing article
appeared in the local paper today about the generosity of Joe Ricketts. A family from my city was visiting Wrigley field in August w/out tickets. Their plan was to look for scalpers, but needed 5-6 tickets. While hanging out by the Banks statue, the mother struck up a conversation w/ Joe Ricketts. She had know idea who he was, but they talked family and Cubs for 20 minutes. Within the conversation, she mentioned that they were looking for tickets. Joe told her that he could help her out, and gave the family 6 tickets- directly behind the visitors dugout. When she tried to pay him, he explained how Tom was trying to buy the Cubs, and that payment wasn’t necessary, as all Cubs fans are “family.” I’m sorry I can’t link the story- it hasn’t appeared on the E edition yet, only in print. For me, this was just what I needed to hear to indeed, give me hope, and alas… wait til next year. I hope more Cubs fans/ BCBers take Joe Ricketts’ perspective, that Cubs fans are family, and tone down the rhetoric and snarkiness with one another, and try to enjoy the remainder of a disappointing season yes, but baseball none the less.

the point about missing baseball over the winter is a good one
And though this post was mild, I think we need to stop telling (or advising) each other how to behave.
+1
there are several posters that enjoy getting on their high horse and “hearing” themselves talk

I hear you about not telling others how to behave
I don’t really care how others behave in response to winning, losing, or life in general. The only thing that bugs me are the “you’re an idiot if you think otherwise” posts, at least when I think otherwise.
I don’t know why, but it seems the pessimists need to piss on the optimists, and the optimists need to hold themselves in higher regard. Human nature I suppose.
I really go miss baseball in the winter, and even though I love hockey and football and even college basketball to an extent, nothing quite fills that gap.
I don't know how old people are in this site
but teams don’t always finish first. Some years its injuries, some years its just bad seasons. We unfortunately are having both problems. this team will contend next year, or at least most of next year. Does anyone hear remember when the season was over in June. All you younger fans should be happy you have a team continding for most of the season. I will still watch the games on t.v. because I am a baseball fan, and most importantly a cubs fan, although it is tough some times. If you want to be a fan of a team that is in contintion all the time be a Yankees fan. If not you will have to endure tough times sometimes.
cubs
exactly.enjoy the wins, suffer the losses.cant win every year. i just wish this team could put a few wins together. i can accept a 2nd place finish if i have to.
