Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Of course, then he goes on to explain why he really isn't to blame, citing amongst other things, team chemistry. Hmmm. Wonder who he has in mind when he references that?

Bruce Miles

has a more full and in context version of the quote on chemistry. There Lou says he doesn’t think the bad chemistry is why they’re losing. That’s in line with what I posted this morning, that Lou’s the stereotyped sabermagician’s manager, who doesn’t think the personalities of the players should affect their performances.

In fact

he says: “Winning has a lot to do with chemistry”. How much clearer can he be?

Hm, I'm not really getting the "sabermagician's manager" thing.

Lou clearly says chemistry does matter – though, interestingly, he seems to be drawing a line between off-the-field chemistry and on-the-field chemistry. I think this distinction warrants further discussion.

Exactly

where does Lou say he doesn’t think bad chemistry is why they are losing? He clearly implies that it has been an issue.

He says both...

He says, “Winning has a lot to do with chemistry.” But then at the end of the paragraph he says, “But look, is that the reason we’re winning or losing baseball games? No, I don’t think so.”

It’s classic manager double-speak, allowing people on both sides of the argument to feel that they’re right.

Good point about the double speak.

I read it and focused on the line you quoted – that Lou believes winning creates chemistry, not the other way around.

He's been borrowing a page from Al Davis.

Apparently bad team chemistry

Made Lou mismanage the roster and make a series of mind boggling in game moves.
Team chemistry forced to forget to warm up Grabow ( or anyone else) and allow Marmol to walk in the winning run, to constantly put in pitchers for one batter and run out of usuable pitchers, to use Fuld to pinch hit in the 6th with two out and no one one so he was not available for defense in the 9th when Fox misplayed a ball that cost the Cubs a game , and bad chemistry now explaines why Lou sits there like a dead rag in the dugout during games and says “what can I do ?” after them.

I’m agreeing with you too much lately.

Just for the sake of accuracy

Marmol didn’t walk in the winning run in the game against the Phillies. That was in the top of the 8th and the game wound up going 12 innings.

Apparently bad team chemistry

comes from bad team talent?

baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

Count me in the camp that blames Lou.

He’s been really clueless and I don’t find him managing the same way he did the last couple of years.
