um
why? A pitcher who has struggled this year, with an injury history, declining velocity, and work ethic questions? SP isn’t really a huge need for the Cubs. Also, the Angels are giving up two very solid prospects, an intriguing lefty in Torres and an intriguing power hitting prospect in Sweeney. When you combine that … why?
If Kazmir was claimed by the Angels
then he didn’t make it out of the AL for the Cubs to have an opportunity to claim him.

you know who else screwed up this season? The Cardinals
They needed to trade for Adrian Gonzalez to get more 1b depth

It'd be nice, but....
last I checked we were first in Quality Starts (or about first). Another SP would be nice, but the offense needs the offseason attention.
I’d rather unload a big contract in a trade for another big contract (Soriano or Bradley for Zito, e.g.), and then work to upgrade at least two positions offensively from this year.

Trading for Zito?
You have got to be delusional. He’s pitched better after the ASB, but in no way, do I let him near my pitcher’s mound.
Rickey has spoken. Keep the Athletics in Bump City.
Sounds like a great trade
for Tampa. Letting go on a guy on his downslope for 2 legit prospects and PTBNL.
Ya but I'd have to say it was a fairly even deal considering everything...
The Angels really need lefty help on their staff and Kazmir seems to be turning it around (he’s still young and he struck out 10 in 6 innings of 4 hit ball the other day) so that’s a good sign. All of the prospects have tons of upside and Maddon seems to have high hopes for the PTBNL but as us Cubs fans should know it’s always a crapshoot with minor leaguers. A change of scenery might give Kazmir some motivation to improve his mediocre work ethic.
I'm surprised St. Louis didn't go after him.
With the way Duncan turns scrap heap throwers into quality big league pitchers, imagine what he could do with an arm like Kazmir’s.
Kazmir is not great anymore and he has a relatively large contract
And the Cubs payroll flexibility is already pretty bad. You should concentrate on dumping Soriano and Zambrano before trying to get more players.
Smoltz.
Yes, he's good but overpaid
And he’s certainly an injury risk.

Interesting.
All the innings pitched certainly do seem to be catching up to him.

sorry
but the rays have an angels connection with joe maddon on the team.i doubt any other teams were even considered. maybe now they can keep carl crawford. now theres a guy you want on the cubs.
We already have the right handed version of Kazmir

absolutely NOT
starting pitching ain’t the issue as much as good old fashioned OFFENSE firing on all 10 cylinders has been .. all season long

That's not a reason to not make a deal.
Sure, our SP is good right now, but what about next year, when Harden is gone and Zambrano is a year older?
