by Jimmyeatworld on Aug 3, 2009 8:19 PM CDT reply actions

How was it a bad approach by Fonzie?

It was, literally, exactly how he SHOULD approach the at bat. What are you talking about??

by kanderber on Aug 3, 2009 8:20 PM CDT up reply actions

swung too hard

Most HR hitters will tell you that a nice, level swing is the key to hitting it out. Henry Aaron often said he hit his HRs when he wasn’t trying to jack one.

Fontenot?

He swung at one pitch. And it was a strike.

Whew

Nothing good ever comes easily, I guess.

Again

Should have gone after Sherrill instead of Grabow.
The price was comparable, and he can close.
I’ll take the win, though.

We did

But we lost the bidding. This is the team we have.

I don't think the price was comperable

I believe the Dodgers gave up prospects rated well ahead of Hart & Ascanio

I don't understand the marmol hate

He just closed the game for us….woody used to do this same shit, and dempster before him.

by cubsonWGN4ever on Aug 3, 2009 8:58 PM CDT reply actions

Because a lot of Cubs fans

are getting more neurotic by the year, sadly.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Aug 3, 2009 8:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, not as often

And they did good jobs consistently….

Aqui viene el Toro Venezolano, Carlos Zambrano, a batear...el lanzamiento...A LO PROFUNDOOO...NOO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NOO...DIGALE QUE NO A ESA PELOTA!! GANAN LOS CACHORROS DE CHICAGO!!

by Azul Cachorro on Aug 3, 2009 8:59 PM CDT up reply actions

if you don't understand the anger with Marmol

than you simply haven’t been paying attention. Wood and Dempster might have struggled they did not have 48 walks, in 51 IP

That’s beyond ridiculous

by WanderingWanderer on Aug 3, 2009 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions

He should not have been in there

He has NO control these days. Stevens has not been seen in over a week ( not counting when he was not on the roster) and Marshall had not pitched since Friday. We got out of it by the hair of our chinny, chin chins.

I'd guess

You’ll see those guys tomorrow.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Aug 3, 2009 9:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think we will see poor Stevens

Till the next blow out or 17 inning game even though he has done well the few times he was in. In fact if the do bring up
Ryan I am imagine he will go down and that is ASSUMING Shark goes down for Gorzelanny tomorrow as it could be Stevens.

and we didn't win jack shit with either guy!

And Marmol did this same crap last year also...

But just not as often.

Someday we'll go all the way...

by CubsBullsBears on Aug 3, 2009 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions

He did it

in 2006, when he was a starter, too. It’s not his stuff, it’s between his ears.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Aug 3, 2009 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions

he's got the stuff

but he’s never known where the ball was going consistently.

by Allie on Aug 3, 2009 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions

I think it's his mechanics honestly...

But it could be mental also. I think he just can’t really replicate the same motion, so pitches pretty much land where they might.

Someday we'll go all the way...

by CubsBullsBears on Aug 3, 2009 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions

i read an article that said that marmol gave up the game winning run to the denmark team during the WBC

that might be it but who knows

He can throw a fastball at 87MPH and make you look like a fool. He can spray lines drives to right field. He can put up with crappy offense and take the loss. He is Randy Wells. He is the most interesting pitcher in the world. Stay healthy, my friends.

by jesus christos on Aug 3, 2009 9:05 PM CDT up reply actions

that is true

everyone lost their minds worrying about his psyche.

You mean the Netherlands?

Dominicana lost to Netherlands twice.

Better have a sitdown with the catcher and get the right pitches thrown

not f*ckin hanging sliders to .198 hitters! Geezus!

He was so close to hitting post and then they won

and spoiled all his fun.

Randy Wells ERA title watch

102.1 innings piched
104 needed

……

ERA 2.73

by CubFaninNY on Aug 3, 2009 9:00 PM CDT reply actions

I think the elephant in the room is...

that Randy is our NUMBER ONE STARTER. As Col Jessup would say, to Dempster / Lilly / Z “if that’s a source of tension or embarrassment for you, I don’t give a s____”

by cubsgocubs on Aug 3, 2009 9:04 PM CDT up reply actions

yes but Dempster was the #2, and Z was having dead arm issues to end the year

like I said, I hope I’m wrong, but I’d be willing to bet the playoff rotation will be Z, Lilly, Harden, Dempster

by WanderingWanderer on Aug 3, 2009 9:08 PM CDT up reply actions

i think that Lou would show great inflexibility in thinking....

if he didn’t start Randy in Game 1 if we make the nlds. just cause he’s a rookie, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t start. i’d be pissed. John Lackey, Rookie, won Game 7 of the World Series. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ANA/ANA200210270.shtml

by cubsgocubs on Aug 3, 2009 9:13 PM CDT up reply actions

it depends on where wells is probably

if he’s still within a good IP number, he’s probably on the roster.

with a young guy you need to watch the jump in his innings.

We can't trust our hopes, our dreams, our souls....

to marmol, gregg, heilman, guzman, samardzija & co… we’ll be crushed

you just said

Guzman…in the same sentence with marmol, heilman, and samardzija.

Cannot get enough of Wells

This kid continues to impress me.

He doesn’t have the spectacular stuff of a Carlos Zambrano, but he has much more poise. He doesn’t get rattled. I think we can expect many good surprises from this young man.
