LOL yep it's easier these days

Sarah, where in the heck do you folks at Mouthpiece sports find all this cool stuff. Keep it coming.

If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.

Keep in mind

that it was easier in those days if you were white. Just sayin’.

But yeah, great posting – and effective promotion, too, as I’ll certainly run out and buy a copy of the book by a guy who was My Favorite Cub back in the day (with Billy Williams a very close second).

"Slept" in a whore house?

No, never.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

That goes for the funeral home too!

my guess...

is that most people don’t go to whore houses to get some sleep. ; )

Carolina—This juicy nugget is in Fergie’s new book. I passed this bit on to Ryan ‘cause I thought it was so crazy. I think I’d actually prefer a whore house to a funeral home. ’Bout the only place to sleep WORSE than a whore house.

but at least...

a funeral home would be quiet. Well, at least it should be quiet. If you actually hear anything then it might be worse. Just ask the Marlins and Twins staying at the Pfister.

Yeah, but you never know where you might wake up.

I'm glad you used a comma and not a slash,

as in it’s the same place…Well maybe in this economy it would quite the new business idea.

LMAO

baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

There are too many commas in that title...

the point is that he was FORCED to sleep in those places due to segregation...

…not that he chose to do so. It wasn’t like he chose to bunk with a hooker or chose an especially comfy coffin instead of a room at the team motel across the street. “CaughtInTheVines” recognizes that but everyone else ignores it.

Fergie saw some lewd and disgusting stuff because his skin has more pigmentation than ours (or, at least, mine as well as that of the person that posted this fanshot). It’s theoretically not a laughing matter, but Jenkins seems to treat it as a funny war story rather than being bitter, which is commendable. Still, the whole thing shows just how, for lack of a better word, weirdly many in our own parents’ generation would treat their fellow human beings.

I’m not sure anyone really thinks he chose to sleep there. I think it’s obvious from the quote that the black minor leaguers didn’t have a choice, they were forced to deal with far worse accommodations than their white teammates. In the book, he also talks about having to get white teammates to bring food from restaurants back to the bus for the black players ‘cause they weren’t allowed in. It’s insane to think that this was just 30-40 years ago.
