Where to stay in Wrigleyville?
So I am coming into town in mid-septemeber for the Brewers/Cubs series and want to stay as close to the park as possible. I dont have many requirements, just that it is clean and a decent place to stay. Thus far, I have found a Best Western about four blocks away that is quoting me at $140 a night. The Days Inn, which I know has been mentioned many times on this site before, is booked as we speak for that week. I know this post is not a new one and I apologize for the redundance but any and all advice and help is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time to all that offer any advice.

So have I, a number of times
It’s older, but has a great breakfast.

Or try the search function
There have been numerous threads on this topic. Try searching “hotel” or “accommodation”. Best of luck.

But of course

It’s over near where Addison reaches the Lake – nice place and they seem to usually have a deal of some sort. Check the City Inns of Chicago site.

I know
you said you want to stay in Wrigleyville, but I would at least consider staying downtown. Wrigleyville is overpriced and, as you found out, largely unavailable. For equivalent prices you get way, way better places downtown in high rises with sick views and lots of other stuff to do.
Believe me, when I’m in Chicago I am at Cubs games every day, but I still like to stay downtown. It’s a 10 minute ride on the El from the north loop and it just leaves you lots of other options and some taste of downtown as well.
I agree
find a place near State Street (the Red Line) and take the 15 minute Red line with all the other Cubs fans to and from the game. It’s really very easy.

Not an expert on downtown hotels
but something on the Magnificient Mile would be neat and not too far from the Red Line. Some of the online companies (Priceline, Hotels.com, etc) should have some deals
Priceline is your friend
Les – find out what you’d pay in Wrigleyville, and then bid that amount (nonrefundable) on Priceline for a 3* property in the north Michigan Avenue area. No guarantee that it would work, but you’d be surprised what might pop out. Check out betterbidding.com, which tracks winning Priceline and Hotwire bids.

The big problem with the Michigan Ave area hotels is parking
Most charge at least $50 for an single night! I stayed at The Willows in Lincoln Park and it was $22.

If you are flying to Chicago...
… you shouldn’t need to rent a car. You can take the train downtown from O’Hare and use the train to get around.
Driving here, that’s another story.

not flying in
thanks for the updates all about the car, I wouldnt rent one anyway, as advised by you all (thanks!). I moved back to the area in May from Florida so I will be taking the train to Union station then who knows. But again I will look into all possibilities. Thanks to Al and all of you, the best blog site anywhere; not because it is in favor of the cubs, just 99% great people who want to help!.Keep the ideas coming.
thanks

Union Station Parking
It’s not widely known, but there is a parking garage attached to Union Station (enter at Canal and Van Buren). It’s about $23/day, much better than most other options for longer-term parking, and there are buses from right there to within a block of most of the Michigan Avenue hotels.

IF THE DAYS INN....
Lincoln Pk North is all booked keep checking back,,,,,Then try the Inn at Lincoln Pk located across the Street from it 866-774-park……You do not need a car for this trip and it will just slow you down…Then check City suites also the Red Roof off N. Michigan had rates that were not too bad ..( But that of course put you father away ) But like the others said priceline is your friend…Have a great time….
Taking the red line to Wrigley?????
Couple friends and me are coming down to Wrigley for a Friday game in a few weeks!
Is there someplace we could park and take the red line to Wrigley so we won’t have to drive all the way to Wrigleyville. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

There is, I believe...
… a parking lot at the Howard L stop, the end of the Red Line. Since you are coming from Madison, that would be a good place to park on the way.

Yes there is.
I believe it’s either like $2 or $4 to park there.

Skokie Swift parking
Since it’s a Friday, you could consider parking at the Dempster stop on the Yellow line. I forget if there’s official park and ride there or street parking, but it’s very close to I-94.

Just booked a room at the Inn at Lincoln Park
really wanted to stay close to Wrigleyville, thanks to all who suggested places. Its late September, Cubs are in the race, have done the whole downtown thing for 4th of July, these three days will purely be about baseball and the park! Any other suggestions for cheap bars or resteraunts in this area??? If not I can be found at Bernie’s with my Mitchell and Ness 1987 Big Z jersey on.
CHOW
Wrigleyville has a number of great bars/restaurants . Our favorites are Mullens on Clark, Goose Island Wrigleyville, and Bernies ( Gotta try the italian beef ) . If you like BBQ try Sheffields they have a neat beer garden . The Duke of Perth will be on your way to Wrigley walking they have wonderful fish and chips and alot of imported drafts….Enjoy
