Daryle Ward and Norris Hopper were traded from the White Sox to the Nationals today. So bored on an off day.

I knew they signed him in the offseason...

… but I thought he had been released. Why the Nats want Ward and Hopper is beyond me.

Well with the Nick Johnson trade

the Nats have been playing Ronnie Belliard occasionally at 1st. Ward is at least a step up from that. Not sure why Hopper other than Kearns is hurt. The Nationals don’t really have useful parts in AAA like the Cubs. Their AAA 1st baseman is ex-Pirate Brad Eldred and he’s hurt.

They've been playing Adam Dunn at 1b also...

I would think Dunn will become their regular first baseman.

With Johnson gone there’s no need to play Dunn in the outfield ever again.

Willingham may become their first baseman

Dunn has looked exceptionally bad at first base. Makes his play in left field look good by comparison. I wouldn’t be surprised if they moved Willingham to 1st.

Dunn's fielding percentage at 1st base

is .963 after a .977 mark in Arizona. He is an awful 1st baseman. It’s better to hide him in the OF.

I heard Dunn interviewed on MLB Network...

…and even he admitted his defense at 1B was awful.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

AAA Filler

… is all. Ward could come up after the rosters expand just to provide some backup.

I ♥ DWaryle!

I don’t know what the Nats are going to do with him either. But I hope he’s doing well. Always seemed like a nice guy.

Maybe that was the Baseball Gods way...

…of warning us that Gregg would give up a lot of home runs this season.
