I was gonna make an off-color joke,

but I read the story. Nice guy.

One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.

Pretty cool

This is my favorite quote though.

LaCock estimates he has competed in 50-60 triathlons and 13 marathons. He has run, swum and biked for charity, raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through its Team in Training program.
“It’s all a matter of how you train,” he said. “Anyone can do it if they train properly, anyone who has any physical ability, if they train.”

You’d think someone who’s done 50-60 triathlons and 13 marathons would be a bit more… um svelte.

Good for him though, sounds like he’s making the most out of his post-major league baseball life.

You're right

I didn’t really think about it when I first saw the picture but you would think he would be in better shape. It does say he competed not completed the triathlons and marathons. Maybe he just ran, biked and swam just a few miles.

Maybe he did the triathlons, etc. years ago.

He is, after all, 59 years old.

My dad is 66 and still does at least a dozen triathlons a year

Did You Know LaCock's Number Is Retired?

When I met him at Spring training this year, he posed this question. Since I knew the answer why that was. he bought my beer.

What's the answer?

When LaCock joined the Cubs, he wore #23

That number was retired by the Cubs in 2005 (for Ryne Sandberg, not LaCock)

Very clever

Thanks.

Trivia!

Who was the last Cub to wear #23 before Sandberg? Hint: this question is topical.
