Has the Curse Been Reversed?

Anyone who watched on TV or at Wrigley today saw the gray squirrel that ran through the field into the Cubs and then the Reds dugout today in the 8th inning. Could this be the antidote to the black cat curse at Shea in 1969?

Realistically, the Cubs have won 4 straight and have a fairly favorable schedule the rest of the way. If they can win the next 2 against Cincy, sweep Milwaukee (or go 3-1) and then go 2-1 against STL, they will be in position to put the heat on Colorado. Colorado has 3 vs SF, STL, and LA through the end of the season.

It looks like Lilly is hot, Z is getting set for another big september, Dempster has a strong arm due to his break during the season and Harden can always run off a set of wins. These guys have not given up and nor shall I. If the Cubs go 20-4 (not impossible) and Colorado plays .500 ball its a Cubs/Rockies playoff on October 5.

Even I'm one of the most optimistic Cubs fans

But come on…Rockies losing Wildcard to Cubs is beyond epic failure for any team franchise and is likely not going to happen.

On the other hand, Dodgers are only 2 games up on Rockies. I see it more possibly for Dodgers to tank and not make it in postseason than your scenario.

No offense.

It's very unlikely that the Cubs make the playoffs...

But no more unlikely than the 2004 Astros’ comeback (per Coolstandings, which is a neat site, but has really obnoxious pop-up ads). As long as I’ve got the time I’m keeping up the watch… the odds are low but the payoff would be pretty awesome.

Agreed!

I’m still following every game but its more in hopes DLee gets more HR or one of our pitchers has a fantastic game.

But when I referred to Dodgers losing their playoff spot, I didn’t mean to Cubs but more likely Giants. I’ve had this belief for a good month now…

And the Giants, Braves, Marlins and Dodgers are just going to vanish?

…and for the first time in eons, the Cubs made up a little ground in the division race. Maybe Mr. Squirrel is on to something here…

Obi-Wan is perhaps the greatest Jedi of all.

You speak blasphemy. Who else could have defeated Vader at the height of his power?

No one, that’s who. Only his mercy allowed Vader to live, and thus be saved by his own son’s love. Useless? Bah!

One little force push into the lava

and Obi-Wan saves the galaxy from a horrible ruler in Vader.

Bah…Qui-Gon would have kicked Vader’s ass, then converted him back, then bitch-slapped the Emperor.

by Worf on Sep 12, 2009 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That storyline needs to be re-written.

I’m still not exactly sure why Vader turned evil. Was it because he kind of witnessed the Emperor killing Samuel L Jackson?

Because he was a good guy, then he watched Sam Jackson get killed, and literally in the next scene he’s chopping kids’ heads off like Dahmer.

What a wasted opportunity. If the Star Wars Prequels were a baseball team, they would be the 2009 Cubs. Shiny and expensive, underperforming, often inexplicable, and completely lacking any heart whatsoever. And both got some pretty terrible performances from their stars.

Watched the Emperor kill Sam Jackson?

Uh…….Anakin chopped off Sam’s saber arm right as he was about to drop the death blow on Darth Sidious.

Remember his anuished and overacted line, “What have I DONE?”

Interesting analogy, though. To take it a bit further, if the original trilogy were a baseball team, it would be the 2008 Cubs. Amazing story, rollicking action, fine performances, and it seems like nothing could be better, and then all of a sudden the Ewoks show up and the whole thing turns into a regrettable mess.

The thing is...

All of the Anakin crap could have been sold if they had an actor who could somehow manage to convey falling if he was pushed off a cliff.

Exactly.

I watched Hayden Christensen in “Jumpers” and immediately wished I also had the power to instantly transport myself somewhere else.

Somewhere where it’s illegal to air movies with Hayden Christensen in them.

he was OK in Shattered Glass

that said, it was probably about the best you can expect from him. Other than him being a buff, smoldering looking Canadian hunk who can creatively mumble and look henpecked all the time, he’s no Olivier.

Rent "Awake" some time

It’s Hayden and Jessica Alba

The acting makes a fourth-grade Christmas pageant look like the Royal Shakespeare Company.

You know, if that movie were made in Sweden, it’d be pronounced, “Yumpers”.

Force push? Try Xanax...

If they had decent therapists in the Old Republic, then somebody could have dealt with Anakin’s Oedipal issues. As simple anti-depressant prescription could have saved millions of lives.

Anyone see the new Heckler's article on the "Curse of Vine Line"?

It was pretty funny. They said

This winter one cover featured free agent signees Milton Bradley, Aaron Miles, Kevin Gregg, Luis Vizcaino and Joey Gathright and each and every one of them has had a terrible 2009 campaign for us. That’s just too freaky to simply be bad judgement by our front office to sign them in the first place.
