No leadoff spot for Soriano in 2010
Lou confirmed that Soriano will not lead off in 2010. There will be competition for the spot.

Leadoff
That’s good.
I wonder if the Cubs will try to go after a good leadoff man during this off season? Any out there gonna be a free agent? I have a feeling if they are going to get one, they may have to trade.
I’ve always wished Crawford would come to Chicago, but I doubt that will happen… (I know… the LF issue . Still, a boy can dream can’t he?)
I've read articles saying Chone Figgins
I really don’t know much about him but his stats seem very good and by singing him it would be hitting two birds with one stone. A leadoff guy and true 2B.
There ya go...
Maybe….
I need to check up on him.
Thanks.

I'll read up too
Let me know if he sounds like a good Cubs fit. To be honest, I’ve never even heard of him until a few weeks ago. I’m very Cubscentric and since I live in NY I know of Mets/Yankees/Phillies/Red Sox players but that’s about it. Unless they’re getting a webgem every night I just don’t know too much.
No thanks on Figgins.
He’s Juan Pierre with a few more walks, and can play a couple more positions.
Like last year, when it was “get more lefthanded”, the obsession this year is “speed and stolen bases”. That’s not the problem.

But isn't he a 2B?
I think that’s the bigger hole. Baker has done well but I think its a position that can be upgraded.
No he's not. At least not since 2005. And that was only 42 games (career high).
He was mostly OF and 3B from 2003-06 and then mostly 3B ever since.
Games played at 2B:
2009 – 2
2008 – 9
2007 – 9
2006 – 9
2005 – 42
2004 – 20
2003 – 14
2002 – 8

Agreed - I'm starting to hear a lot of Figgins talk...
…and I’m in no way enthused about him. His numbers are pretty inconsistent from season to season – and he’ll be 32 next year.

time will tell how many times that changes
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Well only took about 3 years to figure it out.

To be fair
Even though I never liked him in leadoff, it did help the team get 97 wins last year. I won’t go into 2007 because to be fair, it was more of Brewers collapsing than Cubs winning.
let the record show...
… that a lot of people here felt that Soriano should be the leadoff man. For most of the last few seasons we saw posts riddled with stats about Soriano’s numbers at various places in the line-up.
And a lot of us thought he should not be there period.
I loved last season up till the end but I did endlessly carp that DESPITE the 97 wins Lou was a bad manager and Sori was not a lead off hitter ( though I was hardly obsessed with the ladder). To be fair I also was strongly against Edmunds still 97 wins masked a lot of flaws .

I'll go on the record and say:
Soriano, your 2010 Comeback POY.

Better late...
…than never, but this should have been done 2 years ago.
