Wow this reminds me of so many Cubs injuries early in the season over the past few years.... Lee, Ramirez, Nomar....  Its like a big punch to the gut before you even get anything started. I am kind of surprised no one has posted this on here yet even though it is off topic!

not really

2 of his interceptions were on the WR. Desmond Clark dropped a sure touchdown and stopped running on that play. O-line played like shit plain and simple. Earl dropped like 3 passes.

COOL BEANS!

by lexmarklover on Sep 14, 2009 3:02 PM CDT up reply actions

So he still had 2 interceptions on him then?

The red zone pick was fairly devastating and all on him. The Pack’s d-backs did also drop 2-3 gimme interceptions.

He had his moments of brilliance…but he’ll be little more than a tease to the Bears for the years to come.

Give it time People

I’ve been on BCB for a couple months now, and i KNOW how much this group loves to jump the ship before it sinks and screams tales of impending doom. That’s his first Game as a Bear (full game). QB/WR chemistry is still developing. 2 -3 of those INTs we miscues, by KNow, Clark, etc… NOt to mention Cutler’s first game as a bear was against the Bear’s Arch Rival…. Give a slack gang, we should be more worried about all the injuries

I'm a Packers fan...

so it makes little difference to me, other than the divisional factor.

Jay Cutler is definitely an upgrade over what the Bears have had. He’ll show signs of brilliance, but I still don’t see him as a long term solution. Jay Cutler is a tease.

And also remember...

that as bad as the Bears line was, Green Bay’s was just as bad. Rodgers didn’t make many plays (until the final bomb), but he also didn’t put nearly as much pressure on his defense.

and a 3rd one was a pretty amazing play by a DT.

All that said, Cutler and his WRs need to get their adjustments figured out. For the time being, I’m thinking that Jay’s reads are probably ahead of the WRs – but we had players breaking away from the ball when it was already in the air!

and had Clark

continued running his route, Cutler’s pass hits him perfectly in stride for a TD. What happened next? The DL making a pick of the center screen.

You are right on—OL sucked (Forte had nowhere to go) and the WR’s were not on the same page as Cutler whenever he broke the pocket. Hester had a very good game, though.

You know how people say someone isn't fit to be mentioned with someone else?

In this case, if someone mentions Bonds and then a week later, mentions Cutler, that’s still too much.

4 INTs. Could have been 7 had the Packers not been so surprised the ball was coming at them.

But it’s more than that. He’s a pouty, sullen little brat. It’s always someone else’s fault with him.

Jeff George was like that. Even when the beef is legit — Cutler DID have bad receivers, just as George played behind horrid lines — they carry it too far and piss off their teammates.

There is no such thing as an ugly female breast

someone else's fault

please elaborate.

I give him a pass at how McDaniels and Bowlen handled that situation. You don’t look to trade a 3rd year Pro Bowl QB and bring in a career college and pro back-up QB. You just don’t. It was insulting and wrong. He spoke from the heart over his hurt and disappointment.

If you don’t give him a pass on that, fine. Whatever. But what is the “more than that—the pouty sullen little brat” you say? I don’t see it and it has never been that way in his time in college or the pros.

by socalbob on Sep 16, 2009 1:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Coming off a Pro Bowl season only to hear from outside the organization that they are looking to deal him and bring in Matt Fucking Cassel. That would be like your boss going behind your back and trying to hire BLou to replace you. You’d be pissed and not take his calls and tell him to deal with your recruiter.

Name one current player that called him out? You won’t find any. It’s easy for assholes not in the league to back the coaches and question him.

You are friggin insane—back-up in 4 years? No need to reply with that comment, I don’t see the need to discuss further. Good day worf. You are clearly wrong.

by socalbob on Sep 16, 2009 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Oooh, the PRO BOWL!

Fuck the Pro Bowl. No one cares. No one remembers. The best players find reasons not to go and they are down to like the 6th alternate by the time the game is played.

The new coach wanted to bring in someone he had worked with before and figured Cutler would be a great trading chip.

Far better players than Cutler have been traded. He needed to get over it, sack up and play.

Joe Montana had to finish his career with another team. Favre has had to. Namath and Unitas did.

Cutler isn’t fit to tongue wash the shower slippers of those QBs

Bet he wishes he had those Denver receivers to bail his bad throws out now, huh?

why would Cutler be a great trading chip?

you just said he’ll be a back-up in 4 years. He is Jeff George. He’s a pouty whiner, remember?

Obviously the new Doogie Howser of coaches thought he had value. Right? You just admitted it.

Yet, the previous post you said Martz and Mora think he’s a dickhead.

Talk out of both sides of your ass much to prove your points?

Do they list Pro Bowls on the back of football cards and is it written on HOF placques? YES. I think there are plenty of players and coaches who acknowledge Pro Bowls as a significant achievement.

And to answer your question—YES, I bet he wishes he had Brandon Marshall to run his routes versus Earl Bennett/Kenny Knox and Sheffler instead of Clark. If those guys run the routes instead of breaking them off or stop running, he would have had 3 more completions and 3 less INT versus GB.

Answer your phone, it’s your boss trying to call you after trying to hire BLOU to replace you. You should be happy and sing the praises of the company otherwise you are a whiny little bitch.

by socalbob on Sep 16, 2009 2:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Jeff George was enough to command a #1 pick

No one said Cutler wasn’t talented. The man is talented. And yes, he was the best trade bait the Broncos had.

But he’s got nothing between his ears and nothing in his heart. His only attribute is his arm.

Jeff George hasn’t worked in seven years and he is only a little older than Favre and Garcia. There’s a reason for that. Cutler will be one of those guys.

In the real world, people have to suck it up and feed their families, just like I’d have to if the boss tried to replace me.

Cutler is just one more prima donna athlete that think the NFL will cease to exist if he isn’t in it.

As a Packers fan, I was OVER-FUCKING-JOYED the Bears got him. Just means two easy wins for my team.

All 3 of those teams would have laughed in Denver’s face. He’s never lead a team to the playoffs and shouldn’t have been elected to the pro bowl either. If they had voted at the end of the season he wouldn’t have made it. I want to see this guy put up or shut up. Too many excuses as to why he is not winning.

please re-read

I didn’t compare him to those guys.

The comp was in trying to trade him FOR MATT CASSEL which is ridiculously insulting. Why is that so hard to understand? They tried to trade for a guy who couldn’t start in college or the NFL only becuase the new Bellichick wannabe was “familiar” with him.

BTW, what execuses did Cutler make about losing Game 1? Please enlighten me. He said he “played lousy and it will get better. I guarantee it.” Where are those excuses?

Bad luck...

…for the Bears indeed, but you never know if this doesn’t allow someone else to step up and surprise you at MLB.

There is a very fine line between winning 6 or 10 games in the NFL, and IMO, coaching plays a larger role than it does in any other sport. We’ll see if they adjust and improve, or start to slowly crumble.

Just another reason I anxiously await the Blackhawks season. In the next few years, I believe they have the best chance of delivering Chicago a championship.

by MPH73 on Sep 14, 2009 3:29 PM CDT reply actions

It was surprising to me...

…that with Cutler’s poor play the Bears were in position to win a tough road game. There’s a lot of blame to share for the WRs and for me the turning points were the following:

QB/WRs overall poor play

Coaching—hibernation calls with 1st and goal in 4th quarter, playing to lose despite having a franchise QB. Poor management of TOs via very poor decisions to challenge replays.

Player or Coach who decided to fake a punt on your own 30 in the 4th quarter on 4th and long. Even if they were trying to get 1 man penalty, why? For 5 additional field position yards? If so then snap the ball and punt and re-kick if you don’t like the FP, but at least snap it when there are 12 guys on the field an don’t do a dive play up the middle when you need 10 yards. This was a very poor decision.

Green Bay seemed to step on the defensive line of scrimmage and yet the Bears were in position to win it. A frustrating loss, and too bad for Urlacher.

Same here

Cutler is not much of a team player. The Cutler apologists always point to the receivers or the line. But in the end his leadership abilty shows nothing but excuses. He hasn’t started one playoff game if memory serves me correctly. I hope it gets better but this guy has been a divider of Men instead of a leader.

by LT on Sep 14, 2009 4:22 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Speaking as an independent observer

Ok, I’m a Packer’s fan :)

But seriously, there are very few outstanding quarterbacks that come without any baggage. The short list that comes to mind is Brady and Brees, and probably Peyton. The Packer in me wants to put Rodgers in this category but I think he still has to get deep into the playoffs before he can get in this category.

For the rest, it’s a pretty predictable formula. The gun slingers/super athletic guys have an attitude problem, which is exactly why they are a gun slinger/super athletic. The game managers are more likeable and more responsible for the same reason- they are actually responsible and weigh what they do and the risks they take with more analysis.

I think Cutler is a good pickup for the Bears, because the game managers haven’t cut it in Chicago. If there were 5 quaters in last night’s game who knows who would’ve won. I don’t think you could’ve said that if Orton or Grossman was at QB.

Wow. I was hoping that your posts were sarcasm or irony. You do realize that the Bears lost a road game to a team that several prognosticators have picked to go to the Super Bowl. Green Bay was coming off a preseason in which it had scored touchdowns in nearly 70% of the series that its first team had played. Our quarterback played one of the worst games in his life. And yet the Bears lost by six points. But in your world, the Bears’ season is finished after game one. Wow.

Cutler is a whiny QB who will always be pointing a finger anywhere but at himself. He’ll show tremendous talent at times which will make his inability to excel at the most critical times and in the most critical games even more deflating.

That said, I did not rejoice when the Bears signed him (I’m also a Pack fan). As bad as he was against the Pack, he still threw a few good passes and will at least keep the defense somewhat honest. He’s certainly an upgrade over the Bears’ previous QBs.

And if you cannot see the miscommunication between the TE and WR on a couple of his scramble throws, I don’t have anything to say.

You are realisitc in your view where Green Worf is overboard. I would disagree with you about his inability to excel at crititcal times. He led the hapless, running-back less, defense-less Broncos to play Week 17 with a chance to win the division which means he excelled all year for that shitty team to even be in the hunt. He has a ways to go, but is already battle-tested in the NFL and had success.
