Congratulations, Koyie Hill!

I'm surprised nobody's yet posted about Koyie Hill getting the Player of the Month for August award from some corporate sponsor (Edward Jones?) of the Cubs last night.  Since he first joined the Cubs I've liked the way he plays the game, and I really became a big fan after learning about his amazing comeback from that horrific table saw accident.  Although I'm always pulling for him, I never considered him a PotM candidate and was somewhat surprised to see him get it last night.  However, given the way he filled in for Geo during August, he richly deserves it.  Way to go, Koyie!

BTW, I know this probably should have been a Fanshot, but I couldn't find any articles to which to link it.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

I strongly disagree

I can’t even fathom the rehab to even get back to the major league level much less be able to compete on a minor league level and then to catch for the length he did with minimal inning breaks.

I’m glad they recognized his hard work.

Hard Work =/= good

What’s confusing about that?

Nobody is taking away from the fact that Hill worked extremely hard to get where he is. He just wasn’t the best player on the team this month, at all.

Looks like you're in the minority

Moreover,. “player of the month” doesn’t always equate to “best player” or “best stats”. He meant more, and made the best, most meaningful contributions to the team.

He meant more, and made the best, most meaningful contributions to the narrative of the team.

Fixed.

Sigh.

Hill did hit .316/.381/.456 in August, in 17 games (15 starts). Most of the team had a pretty bad August. It’s not that bad a choice.

Well, except for Derrek Lee, Milton Bradley, Kosuke Fukudome, and Jeff Baker

Who all had better augusts than Hill and played in more games

Hill's done a very good job...

….. considering all that’s happened to him, what he’s been asked to do by the Cubs and how he’s responded, I’d say he’s very deserving. The guy’s a warrior, which is what a catcher should be. Soto could learn a thing or two from him.

If it was for August, they gave him the wrong award

the one handed to him when shown on Comcast last night said “July Player of the Month.”

I'm pretty sure it said August

However, I noticed there was absolutely no mention of the Cubs. In fact, it was a pretty cheesy looking award, but I suppose it’s the thought that counts.

And Hank493, I think the fact the Hill was the Player of the Month says more about the performance of the rest of the team in August than it does about thim.

Regarding your BTW
BTW, I know this probably should have been a Fanshot, but I couldn’t find any articles to which to link it.

You can post FanShots of different types. When you start a new one, you’re given the option of posting a Link, Quote, Image, Video, List, or Chat FanShot. This one probably could have been a Chat FanShot, which doesn’t require any links.

Did anyone else see Koyie...

…hurling those frisbees from the top of the scoreboard yesterday? Pretty funny. Looked like his wife and daughter were there, too. Hey, congrats to Koyie. He’s put together a nice season in the role he was given.
