14 mistakes Ricketts cannot afford to make as Cubs owner. Hopefully, he has the ability to break the spell in the near future.

I agree with most of this.

He’s a little hard on Crane Kenney, and I’m still undecided on Hendry. But some decent ideas here.

Agreed.

Let’s hope most of this gets done.

Oh the memories from Sept. 14....

Some issues:
bq. Hendry would be the first to tell you he whiffed on the Milton Bradley signing.

Hmmm… Really? Gene must know something. I have to doubt Hendry has made that public.

So Hendry has had an off year. It’s not why the Cubs are, barring a baseball miracle, out of the playoff race, but it didn’t help. Still, Hendry’s successes easily outweigh the negatives. His body of work is enough to buy him at least another season.

I think the Aaron Miles deal is the dumbest thing he ever did. There is no atonement for it this—or next—season.

Don’t let Crane Kenney be Crane Kenney.

I think I’m the only one who sees no problem whatsoever with Kenney’s tenure.

Otherwise, this is spot-on.

Did Crane take Gene's seat on the couch?

Seems like a little extra in their for Crane. I guess jock sniffing writers are okay. Of course, I have no idea if Crane is a jock sniffer, but he seems to be a capable money man. He has a role.
The good point is Lou. Make Lou show something. We know what Lou said about coming back. But that is just what you say when you want to get paid. He quits he doesn’t get paid. I don’t really think he has figured out if he has the passion for next year. Find out quick. You need someone in the dugout next year who is going to be in charge. If I am Ricketts and I walk into the clubhouse next year and I see Zambrano’s effing dog in there I go nutso on someone. Somebody misses a team flight, go a little nutso. Run an organization from top to bottom that is professional. If people can’t adhere to that make sure everyone knows there will be ramifications.
For the players, can Soriano and Bradley really be that bad next year? If a healthy Soriano comes back you don’t have to sell at a bargain price. Maybe Z goes. He is relatively young. That deal can be made. Maybe you have to give up a few prospects to the Royals to take Bradley and a few bags of cash.
And, now is the time to get more quality people into the organization as scouts and instructors. Get more staff in the front office. Get the Triangle building underway.

ALOT OF GOOD IDEAS .....

My concern is Kenney covers for Hendry and he covers for Lou . Then in 2010 you have the same situation occur . Thus a huge smokescreen next year and maybe later . The Ricketts group need to make some tough choices . Lets hope they are up to it .
