if the Cubs played the Pirates every game this year, they would be 133-29

Hey all.. at work.. but just checking in..

I’d like to plug the most recent fanpost by Dou.. I like the spirit. My take is the cubs have had some fight this year, but it’s been for the last pitch of the WS instead of for the 50,000 pitches that come before it… not seeing the trees for the forest.

Time to yank Gregg. Bad pitching breeds bad pitching. Let’s get him out now.

by DisCUBbobulated on Sep 9, 2009 2:15 PM CDT reply actions

BTW.. I wrote this before Cedeno's HR.. Lou needs a quicker trigger.

Bad pitching… yes.. but also bad managing. he should know Gregg’s tendencies by now.. dude’s either got or not. AFter two conecutive walks, he doesn’t have it.

Also shocking - Wainwright pitching a shutout

Funny how much smarter LaRussa looks when Carpenter and Wainwright aren’t injured.

Shut him down.

He’s using up innings that would be better served by pitchers that might be able to help us this year and next.

Y'know, I want to like Dome

but unless he gets really hot the final two weeks of the season. He really hasn’t been all that much better than he was last year.

I think the jury is in on him, and he’s just not that good

by Illicat on Sep 9, 2009 2:29 PM CDT reply actions

yes, really

take a look at his lines. I think most sane people would agree last year was just plain bad. His numbers are not that much better this year. He’s hitting .267 instead of .257, and his OBP is a little higher, but unless he just gets blazing hot to close out the year, he certainly didn’t prove last years numbers were some ridiculous fluke

by Illicat on Sep 9, 2009 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions

This year has been way more consistent, even if the number aren't as high as we'd like to see

Some people say the glass is half empty, some say half full. I say, are you going to drink that?

consistently mediocre is still mediocre

he doesn’t do anything exceptionally well.

by Illicat on Sep 9, 2009 2:37 PM CDT up reply actions

He ended last season with a .738 OPS.

He’s currently OPSing .820. So I say again…really?

Catch my act on Twitter as @dat_cubfan_dave.

by daver on Sep 9, 2009 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions

He has a .378 OBP.

I’d say that’s pretty exceptional.

Catch my act on Twitter as @dat_cubfan_dave.

by daver on Sep 9, 2009 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

yet he's going to strikeout over 100 times

and he has little speed, so you really can’t use him at the only spot where that OBP is truly effective. He’d better not be our leadoff hitter next year

by Illicat on Sep 9, 2009 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

When he was our leadoff hitter....

we were winning games.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

Cubs 2010 Schedule Released

I was able to find this already posted if anyone is interested >>>

http://www.itsalongstory.com/Cubs_2010_Schedule.jpg

I think it’s a favorable schedule, and I’m pretty optimistic!!!

Hmm... somebody should make a t-shirt out of this one.

But who could manage such a feat? Who, I wonder, who??? ;-)

there could be 40 rain outs with a schedule like that!

…LOL!!

Just checking in after a spate of meetings and "work"! WORK! (Where's Maynard C. Krebbs when you need him?)

Looks like you all did a great job bringing home the “W”. I just noted that the Cubs added insult to injury today. With this loss, the Pirates were officially eliminated from the NL Wild Card race.

So wait until next year Buccos!

Nice sweep for the Cubs!

But I have to ask, How is Gregg not in Lou’s doghouse?
Miles gets to play and Fox does not on sub day. Yet Gregg is still run out there.
I don’t think there is to big of a lead to pitch Gregg.
I would rather see Heilman at this point.

He is a VETERAN

I mean what do you want him to do ? Play those silly kids from Iowa who might give up runs ?
