It appears the Red Sox are pretty desperate to unload this guy.  Essentially, they have better, healthier players at other positions (including 3B now) and he does not fit into their plans.  That said, he is a proven hitter and veteran who has only won everywhere he's been.

My question is:  what other positions can he play?  Is he even an option at 2B? I know he is getting to be very old right now, but if he can play 2B, and if the Red Sox were willing to pay a large part of his salary, would he be worth a flyer?  Heck, with Aramis Ramirez's health always being at issue, if he did not cost much, would it be worth looking into?  At this point, he might just cost a couple of minor leaguers so that the Red Sox can unload him and save face.

Can he play any other positions besides 1st and 3rd?
