Cubs Hire Maddux as GM Assistant

I just heard Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000 Radio say the Cubs will be hiring Greg Maddux as an assitant to Jim Hendry beginning this season. He will be working with players during Spring Training and will be advising Jim Hendry on player development and any potential trades. I dont care how, I'm just glad the Cubs are making him part of the organization.

I find that very hard to believe

I would be thrilled but it is Levine. I still expect him to work for the Braves. Maddux will not be leaving Vegas for more than short periods wherever he works.

It's official.

I’ll post it on the front page.

Why?

1. Levine has a good track record on things like this.
2. Just what makes the Braves more attractive than the Cubs?

Just win the next game...!

ESPN is reporting it.

Ok no more Hendry criticisms from me.

I'll say.

First Dawson gets in the Hall and now Maddux is back. Maybe this off-season isn’t so bad after all.

OK, Jessica, it's on the front page.

Go for it.

Ah, you beat me to it. I'll delete the fan post

My comments were that it’s a great move, almost as good as having a baseball man over Hendry, as long as Maddux critiques proposed deals and Hendry LISTENS.

Spraining my shoulder patting myself on the back

But when he retired I said I wondered if he would want a position like this. He doesn’t have to be in Chicago full time and can keep his fingers in the game.

I think he probably wants to do somethign like this til his kids finish high school.

This is a temporary job....

until he secures the pitching coaches job when Ryno takes over as manager.

Just win the next game...!

Maddux has forgotten more about pitching

than most pitchers ever learn. It would not surprise me if he becomes a good pitching coach.

I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.
