Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

Jones was once a Top 100 prospect. You can read what Sickels thought of him just 9 months ago, here. I'n fanshotting this because Jones is the kind of player Jim Hendry has taken good risks on before. He'd also fit our team, offering about as much as we'd hoped Ryan Church might if he was healthy.

whatever money we have left to gamble with

should go to a Sheets Relief Fund only, not Jones.

Jones would cost the league minimum.

And we have to have someone as a 4th or 5th OF making at least the league minimum.

"We’re going to come back here next year healthy and do what we’re supposed to do, and we’re going to be all right. That’s not Hendry’s fault. He thought it was the right move. It didn’t work out. But at the same time, he’s the same guy that put back-to-back championship teams together." - Aramis Ramirez

for a minor league deal

with a ST invite, I’m game with that. I don’t think I’d give him a 40 man spot right off the bat, though. Average speed, below average power, decent discipline, some defensive versatility. He just hasn’t developed. Maybe he finds another switch, but I don’t see a need to offer a major league vet minimum deal.

I see that DFA

wasn’t an unconditional release, and that they hope to trade.him. I say meh for the Cubs, but got to believe someone will do that deal, and make him a pet project.

ah

then no, I’ll pass if we have to trade something, even a PTBNL for him. I just don’t see the point at the moment. He may turn it around, but it’s not a gamble that makes that much sense for us at this stage, IMO.

Ha, I saw this come up on Twitter yesterday...

…and actually took the time to look up Jones’ bio and stats. I’d like to see the Cubs grab him and stash him in Triple A but, per Damen and toonster’s comments above, I wouldn’t favor trading for him.
